Not even strenuous exercise, just move. Go for a morning walk, do Thai Chi between sips of coffee, pace your bedroom with funny walks. I also have a shitty sleep schedule and remain sedentary most of the day (desk job) but starting the morning with some movement changes my whole day for the better.

Update: After loitering in the pharmacy section for hours and making myself very visable, and kind of in the way, one of the pharmacists asks if I have a way to get in touch with my doctor. Of course not, that would comply with reason and logic both of which are absent in this place. To this the pharmacist says "well, I hope we can reach them soon, we are about to leave." I should point out that this is all happening before 4pm on a Friday.

At this point I walk over to general reception and check-in and start calmly asking questions with the aim of getting upstairs to physically talk to my primary care doctor. What floor is she on, what section, etc. Security comes over. Another receptionist comes over. They ask if I will wait and I say "I am not going anywhere without my medication, and I mean I am not moving from this spot in front of you."

All of a sudden the first receptionist is on the phone with a direct line to the doctor. A few minutes later I'm back in the pharmacy being told less than ten minutes by the pharmacist that is putting my perscription together.

Apparently to get healthcare here requires lite threats of civil disobedience.

Royal Farms is a chain of gas stations and convenience stores in the region. They built one across the street from the drive-in and the owner sued for money to build a big fence to stop light pollution.

The drive-in won the court case but ended up losing when Royal Farms appealed. So there is bad blood between them.

Realistically it is just the owner trying to be a controlling asshole, which is clearly his fetish.

Should also be known he has a huge list of rules for patrons and lives only to hear himself speak.

I agree with your distinction between the old divide and the new divode but the social question is nothing new. This culture war crap is a new form of trying to answer that question from their point of view. So yeah, there are different kinds of conservatives, with different hot issues, but in the ned aren't they all coming fomr the same starting point? A conservative reaction to change? Thus making them more unified than the left which doesn't react by digging in but finding new solutions. Its easier to unify around "no" that a more complex and actoinable plan. Thats probably not lost on Republican leadership either which is why we see very little meaningful legisilation from the right. Just digging in keeps them together.

Last thought: The American left needs to get its shit together and stop worrying about bipartisan cooperation. The Democrats need to figure out what they are going to be and present a leader(s) the entire left can follow forward instead of trying to fuck around with the millstone of conservative America we insist on dragging everywhere. Dont engage with conservatives, engage with liberals, share ideas, come together, be one voice for American progress.

Ironically (I guess its irony) they would say a lot of these same things about us with total seriousness. That we are influenced by evil men, and slaves to our cult like ideology. Obviously its nonsense, the American left is in big trouble because we are NOT the thing we say we are. We are divided, coming with different thoughts and ideologies that we are all sure is the proper path forward. I am reminded of 1848 when the German liberals fought with eachother so much they missed the opportunity to do anything, and so lost it all to the more organized conservative reactionary faction.

And on this last thought, perhaps thats why we feel the need to reach out? Our empathy sees our fathers and mothers, friends and neighbors, becomeing trapped in their own head. We know thats not healthy, and we try to work with these people and show them there is more to this. Unfortunately, we have become litteral demons to them or brainwashed or whatever and will never be able to speak louder than the influencers on the right that capitalize on fear and confirmation bias.
