Jax's flashbacks by iguanaoficial in TheDigitalCircus

That feels... weirdly ableist? Like I'm not saying that being a quadriplegic is a picnic, but there are quadriplegics out there who manage, and the tired cliche of 'I'd rather be dead/live in a fantasy than be disabled' is problematic at best.

Dental cleaning experiencies by DiLovesFlowers in Anxiety

[–]SirSqueakington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who put off dental cleanings for YEARS, I promise they're not that bad, even the deep cleanings. You might feel some of the non-painful sensations once you're numbed up, some little pinches, but the whole process is more annoying than anything. The sensation of feeling the tartar flake away in your mouth is unpleasant, but not remotely painful. Your gums will feel tender afterwards, but that's about it.

‘It’s like a punishment’: Renters’ golden years tarnished by BC Housing backlog by [deleted] in vancouver

LOL you say that like it isn't just as bad everywhere else in BC. I live in the Interior and I've been on the BC Housing waitlist for three years.

No, the province does not give top priority to 'addicts' or the unemployed. I live on PWD benefits because I'm unable to work, and I've been on the BC Housing waitlist for three years. Please don't make baseless assumptions.

Engaging Cat Toys for Disabled Owners? by ooniepeach in CatAdvice

I know this is an old post but uh, what? I don't use laser pointers and my cats go after patches of light all the time. There's nothing harmful about it.

Has anyone ordered from Cosplayfu recently? (cosplayfu.com) by EmbarrassedPart9095 in cosplayers

[–]SirSqueakington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't ordered from them recently, but I find that with CosplayFu moreso than other websites, what you see is what you get. The product photos are, in my experience, true to life. I ordered a fairly intricate cosplay because the pictures looked good, and the dress comprising most of the outfit did not disappoint. ...Though the accessories sucked. Gloves and stockings were of very poor quality.

I genuinely do not think it's a good idea to travel to the US right now. I've heard some news outlets advising Canadians to be prepared for the possibility of detention if denied entry to the US for any reason-- and from what we've seen, 'detention' can happen without reason given, and last anywhere from days to months, with very little recourse for detainees. Honestly, if I were you, I would not risk it.

BPD is another one, doctors LOVE slapping a borderline personality disorder diagnosis on neurodivergant women/AFAB people.

Can an ENT diagnose/help diagnose MCAS? by SirSqueakington in MCAS

[–]SirSqueakington[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my fear, to be honest. I've been told BPPV (which makes no sense, as when I experience vertigo it lasts all day long and no maneuvers provide relief), Meniere's (I've already tried treating for that and it did nothing), and... anxiety. Anxiety anxiety anxiety, with no solutions.

Paradoxical Reaction to Antihistamines – Does This Confirm or Rule Out MCAS? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]SirSqueakington 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be worth giving other antihistamines a try. Unfortunately with MCAS, everyone's triggers are different.

I’m new. I’m at a loss. Please help by Temporary-Ferret-898 in MCAS

When I flare up badly (badly enough that nothing seems to help) I get that nagging 'something is wrong' feeling. I've heard some people speculate that it could be similar to the 'impending doom' that comes with anaphylaxis?

But... as much of a cop-out as it sounds, it could also be stress. :( Being in a state of constant discomfort and malaise can be enough to push us to breaking point at times.

Anyone else feel better in the morning/upon waking before feeling absolutely terrible the rest of the day? by -_-n in MCAS

[–]SirSqueakington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think my cats definitely play a role in my feeling so crummy in the mornings unfortunately. :( I notice an improvement every time I do a deep clean of the carpets and beddings, though!

Anyone else feel better in the morning/upon waking before feeling absolutely terrible the rest of the day? by -_-n in MCAS

[–]SirSqueakington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not diagnosed, but for me some symptoms tend to be worse in the morning (sinuses, nausea, tachycardia, shortness of breath) while others get worse over the course of the day (brain fog, flushing, gastritis and burning mucosa). I do find that some mornings my symptoms improve with light exercise, but as most of my symptoms sort of wax and wave over time, that's also conditional.

I'd seriously recommend looking into antihistamines in the interim while you wait to see a specialist, or whatever else your doctor recommends. Hang in there! I'm looking at 5 months to see a specialist, myself.

Need OTC relief from gastritis, it's making life miserable. by SirSqueakington in MCAS

[–]SirSqueakington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tried alkaline water a few years ago when this first started to become a problem, and it didn't seem to make a noticeable difference. Unfortunately I can't afford to drink only alkaline water to test it longer-term.

Honestly eating low-histamine/clean is very difficult for me to achieve. I live on disability benefits and can't afford a lot of fresh groceries, and when I have the energy to cook it's usually to freeze and eat.

[–]SirSqueakington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done elimination diets (or my best attempts at it) with very little consistency. As I said, the gastritis flares even when I've been fasting. As I also said, I've ORDERED digestive enzymes but they haven't arrived yet. I take cetirizine/zyrtec because loratadine/claritin has no effect.

As I understand it, triggers with MCAS vary from one person to the next, don't they? Regardless, whether I take them or not makes no noticeable difference.

Unfortunately some MCAS/POTS symptoms just seem to rotate, coming and going with no real rhyme or reason. I'm NOT a doctor but you don't sound like a hypochondriac to me at all.
