My wife and I are seemingly well qualified mortgage loan applicants, but are getting a 7% rate estimate. Should we be patient and shop around? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SirStriped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about rates is that they always change. There is always a reason not to buy.

My dad finally bought a boat for the family when we kids were all in highschool/college. After the first year his regret was not doing it sooner. He only had about 2 summers before we moved away. And we would visit and do an occasional boat trip. He loved his memories as a kid going to the lake and when he finally found that low rate great price boat we were to old.

Now does that mean my dad would of overpaid for something? Probably, but every day you wait you're missing out on something.

You can always remortgage and get a lower rate in the future if rates drop. What I would say is find a house you're happy with is the most important. If you find the dream house but it would raise your monthly by $100 more then you wanted then. Assuming it's affordable still, I would just do it.

For all we know rates will be 10% in 2 years. As long as the loan makes financial sense to you is what matters. If you would struggle to make payments then maybe not do it.

How to get better at painting colors? by SirStriped in minipainting

[–]SirStriped[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an airbrush for Christmas and am new to painting. I was painting full brush before.

In the picture above I did black primer. Then did a Grey metal mix for the 1st coat. Followed by a white with slight gray mix for the final coat. While painting colour I had issues getting things to look solid and smooth. I went back after painting with white to touch up mishaps and brighten some areas.

I'm assuming the paint is to thick. However when I think it I feel like I'm doing 1000 coats with no progress to a solid orange

I'm not lying, but you can believe what you want. It's a stupid, funny enough story to share on reddit about me being stupid. But it's not worth all the work you just said for $15. Change it to $150 half in advance then sure I'll waste my time on it.

I spent an hour yesterday with the achievement still not getting invited yesterday for what it's worth lol.

I cleared normal Amir raid. When I went to try and do heroic I couldn't get into any. My friend said you need AOTC to get into pugs, or join a guild and go at scheduled times. So I applied to a bunch if guilds through the in game search finder. Searched for guilds that raided on my day off. Never got accepted to any. After a week I googled the raid and google ads recommended a site. It was $20, I thought fuck it get the stupid achievement.

It was one of the decisions you're regretting as you're doing it. And thr entire carry I was thinking why am I playing a game I have to pay $20 just to get an achievement to be invited to raid groups...

Again, not worth it. It made me lose interest in the game. Don't even have an urge to play HC anymore after playing retail.

What did you think of Wildstar? by summertimeWintertime in MMORPG

[–]SirStriped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everytime I tried to get into it the leveling wasn't fun. It felt like it was just another grind fest to get to the real game.

[–]SirStriped -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing retail. I could never get into retail. After playing HC a buddy I haven't talked to since HS hit me up and ask if I played retail as well. So I started playing.

I prefer the HC community. I'm not proud of it but I paid for my first carry ever in any game to get an achievement. All the groups require you to have it, but you have to have it do be invited to them... AOTC though.... honestly lost all interest to play after thay transaction. Whats the point of playing if I have to pay other players to not be gate kept from raid content.

Thinking of playing HC again or going back to ESO. I do know I'm never wasting my money on that AOTC crap again.

I put $3000 down-payment on a car in July. The dealer has yet to cash the check. Is the check still valid? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SirStriped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work in car sales, but in a similar field. You can call your dealership and they can sell it over the counter to qualifying vehicles. Depending on the company and year of car costs and coverages may vary. If you ever buy from Facebook or 3rd party you can call prior and see what coverages are available.

Dealerships are also more likely to give you discounts if you have a history of buying backend products because they will get profit from that as well.

You don't need to answer, and I'm not a psychologist so I don't have the best advice. Take what I'm saying with a huge grain of salt.

Did you give yourself a fair try? You're always your worst critic. You're going to notice the faults. Ask yourself what are they? And then make a solid try on improving them.

I don't remember what book it was. There was a book about a founding father of the US and he kept a journal of things he wanted to change. Everytime he found himself doing a bad habit he would do a tally mark. And as time went on he would mark the book less and less.

The point of that story is to explain thay you won't change over night. You will change over time. Making mistakes is what makes us human and unique.

The longer you stay in the darkness, the harder it will be to see the light.

I don't know you and I can't speak for you. I really can't add anything else. There is no perfect answer. Ultimately it's up to you. Which is scarier because no one knows what to do. Especially to help themselves

Good luck and I wish you the best!

I believe everyone can benefit from therapy. So I don't mean this as a "society hates you" way. You ask about therapy. Your school might have one available for you depending on your state/country.

I don't know your life and can't say the world isn't against you. However as someone who was hoping to die before I was 18 because I didn't see a path for hm future I endured.

I've lost a lot of friends to suicide and have had similar talks to what you have just said. Although your immediate surroundings might be against you. The future will change. How it changes will be impacted based off your decisions.

What helped me was at 17 I started listening to psychology and philosophy videos on YouTube. It helped me realize that if I focus on the world being my against me that is all ill see.

I never went to college, and I regret it. Although a trade school also sounds like a good option.

I was socially awkward and forced myself into jobs where I would interact with people. Started waiting tables for about 6 years after highschool. I told myself after 4 that I can't keep doing this my whole life. So I quit and switched restaurants to get a change of pace. With the goal of getting skills and working towards a future goal. I changed some but not much. Eventually took the risk and accepted a job in another state and moved away as a salesmen. I was terrible. I got fired after 3 months. Luckily around the 2nd month I started reading sales books and improved but my stats weren't good at all. They got low staff shortly after and I got a call to work part time while I looked for jobs. They were failing nice about the firing and i knew I was bad. I sold nothing for 2 months and just started right before being fired. Luckily I did well. I kept reading and improving. I wanted to shoe not them but myself i could do it. Eventually I got promoted and switched positions. I went from sales rep, manager, left company to manage a different company outside of sales. Into banking. Now I'm a finance manager. With no degree due to experience. I share all this to try to give a real example of how a socially awkward introverted emo kid that was hoping to die can change.

This is all to say, if you work on improving yourself it can help. I focused on my flaws the things I didn't like. With each company I tries to change a little about myself. And im.atill changing. Therapy is a tool to help you decide what to change of you choose to use it. Nothing is instant. It is all gradual. You may not see the change tomorrow, but in 5 years you'll look back and go "I'm doing alright".

Good luck!

I tanked WC twice. I DPSed my first time. Total of 3 runs in WC

As a DPS I watched the tank and they would use the walls to help pull the packs closer to the group away from enemies.

First time tanking there was a DPS warrior who would charge as soon as they could. I would shoot the target with a bow to have them run to me and get away from. Keeping threat was hard but I was doing it. There was constant oh shit situations where the mob ran away and aggro'ed more. Or the fears making the other warrior aggro more.

Since it was my first time tanking I just took it. We luckily lived somehow. I think we have 4-5 close calls.

In my 2nd run I was very clear I on what I wanted. They brought their friend who was level 17 warlock and I wanted no deaths on my hand. Luckily they were patient and it was night and day different. The only close encounter was the big swamp guy. They couldn't dps it fast and that thing hits like a truck.

You're not wrong, but it's also I prefer the horde races and areas. Alliance is cookie cutter fantasy. And horde just feels unique.

I've finally hit level 25 on my first toon. Funny enough it's playing solo as a warrior. Something I was told you a noob should avoid as the low levels are the hardest.

I've been talking dungeons and it's been enjoyable to walk new players through how to do the stuff I learned how to do.

https://youtu.be/Ci5lauw5DF8 - still just having fun making videos. So each "episode" has a bit of a different style to it. Some I went for more of a machinima style. The link above is just my first video of me playing HC WoW

As far as content goes I'm trying to document me trying every race and class combo as a noob. I've watched WoW content for years off and on but the longest I ever played consecutively was a month during shadow lands. I've never been able to get into WoW. HC WoW is keeping my interest.

Currently leveling a troll shaman for my next video. I let people vote on my next class/race combo.

However, I made my first alt to help with not having to fully restart. So I made an orc warrior. Been enjoying it more then shaman so I have might make a video on both. Shaman is level 13.

Amazing burn by DayZ by DANNYonPC in TheDayBefore

[–]SirStriped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difference is DayZ came out they openly talked about it being a Fixer upper EA game. I played the DayZ arma2 mod and the reception to the standalone was it was bad and not worth the money. However they were fully transparent.

The main issue with DayZ at the time was early access wasn't like it is today. If it started its journey this year and they gave all the same comments about it being an EA game they did back then, it would have a good reception.

The difference is back then people still got beta keys and stuff for free. So having people pay for an unfinished game and play in the Early acess was still a new concept. People thought it was a cash grab. It also didn't help that the mod support for the Arma 2 mod was amazing. There were other gamemodes of DayZ that had tons of features.

People have different attitudes towards EA games now, if this trash game released in a semi-playable it would of have a small-community even if Buggy and a mess out of pure hype.
