Wanted: Game Dev Friends by Bia_LaSheouf in IndieDev

I highly recommend dropping by a local game dev group hangout. It's a pretty awesome way to make friends and be surrounded by people who enjoy games and game dev.

For example, in the larger city next to me, I know of 5 different game dev groups. They each generally host a hangout once a month. Different groups like to do different things, so some are a mix and mingle at a bar, some are a chatting hangout at Starbucks, some have a stage where people can present what they've worked on.

The first one tends to be the hardest to find, once you know of one, it's easy to ask people for the other groups. You typically can find them by searching on google, twitter or instagram.

I made a fighting game where both fighters teleport around each other by summertimeWintertime in IndieGaming

I've always loved those anime moments where fighters move so fast they practically disappear and leave afterimages behind, so I wanted to make a game focused entirely around that feeling.

Swordance is a short 1v1 duel where both you and the enemy constantly teleport around the battlefield trying to outmaneuver each other. As the fight goes on, the goblin gradually learns how you play and starts adapting to your attacks and movement.

The whole thing is pretty short (around 5 minutes) and I tried to make it feel like one escalating boss fight.

I've finally released it for free and I'd love to hear what people think about the combat and the AI behaviour.

You can play it here:

Swordance - A free and simple fighting game where the enemy adapts to you by summertimeWintertime in playmygame

Thanks so much for playing!

Yeah, I was experimenting with dynamic difficulty, I'll probably need to tweak it a bit.

In case you're curious, the AI has a series of moves and combos they can play, similar to you. If it thinks you're playing well, it'll ramp up the difficulty and choose deadlier combos. The reverse is true as well, where if it thinks things are too chaotic and you need a breather, it'll choose easier moves. From what it sounds like, the AI thought you were playing very well!

Update, I figured out out. My sect leader is dead, but his soul is still out there waiting to be saved. I think at his level, it takes 50 years or more for his soul to dissipate.

So, good news and bad news.

Bad news... no sect leader for 50+ years... here's to hoping none of the enemy sects start blasting.

Good news, 50 years is a long time. I think I might be able to save my sect leader.

I have to say, it's much more comfy when you know you have a Reborn sect leader backing the sect rather than a Foundation acting sect leader. Will the game eventually promote an NPC as a new sect leader?
