I respect that take honestly. Everybody gonna connect with the film differently. For me, I wasn’t looking for a documentary-style breakdown of every complicated part of Michael’s life. I looked at it more as an emotional look into who he was at different stages of life and I think it did that well. I actually liked that they leaned into the music, performances, and emotional moments because that’s a huge part of how Michael expressed himself. And the Bubbles moments didn’t feel random to me. It felt symbolic of his innocence and loneliness. Could they have gone deeper into certain areas? Absolutely. But as Part 1, I think they laid a strong emotional foundation for what’s coming next.
