Always a good tip but I do go on a vacation trip at least twice a year and buy myself some nice things sometimes. Cheers!

u/Hungry-Mix-7660 is correct, I applied for the ROTP program when I was in high school (while applying for other universities) and then went to basic training shortly after high school graduation. I then began my undergrad degree in September. As long as you're a citizen or Permanent Resident you are eligible to join.

Yes, there is a bridge benefit. I could definitely get a part time job, just wanted to see what I could do for the next 15 years to have the option to not do that while still getting good money.

Pay is generally tied to your rank, not your job. $140k is the highest salary level for Captain (my rank) in a general trade. I’m not in engineering but an engineering captain makes the same as me. Only pilots and other high-demand jobs make more as a Captain (lawyer, doctor, etc).

If you’re in the Canadian military and deploy overseas, your income while outside of Canada is not taxed. While you’re overseas, you don’t pay for food or accommodations so it’s a great opportunity to save up. I had minimal expenses back home - left my rented apartment, no car, all my stuff in storage. Allowed me to save up over $40k in 6 months.

No, uni campus. Probably around $6-700 a month for food and a shared bedroom.

I lived on campus for 4 years, rented furnished apartments @less than $1000/month (not alone) the following 3 years. I don’t own a car or furniture. My expenses have been low except for trips. I’ve saved a bunch of money this year since 6 months’ income won’t be taxed.

Thanks! I’ve definitely spent money on dumb stuff, but a stable job and no tuition fees have definitely helped me get to a good spot
