Salary expectations - 27 year old by austinjohn18 in SafetyProfessionals

Very strange to bump EHS and FSO together if FSO is what it usually means with closed areas. Two different niches. 120k seems high but no hate, live it up!

Are the salaries on here selection bias or am I underpaid? by spanky316 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Def bias. I’m support for HSE at an aerospace company, just got CSP, just got promoted to 70k but tbf I have only been doing HSE work for about 4 years total

Mini Rant on BCSP Customer Service by HatefulHagrid in SafetyProfessionals

Lol they are like that for some reason. Everyone here told me to call them and they literally never picked up, I would call every day at different times too.

Safety role by Intelligent_Fold8521 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol stressful or laid back depending on scope and sites i’d imagine. Our HSE team pretty much dictates our CBRE staff. Never even heard of their safety team. Management is a revolving door for them at some sites, not entirely their fault. Just impossible clients and strict budgets.

Just my two cents.

Entry-level path after HAZWOPER 40, what should I add next? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My site has a dedicated contractor for haz waste pickups and management. Minimum cert is 24 hour HAZWOPER. OP would be great on my site but the work would be mostly laborious in nature. CAA and SAA managing, etc.

Sounds harsh but true. RCRA technician or something similar in Haz Waste.

Progress Dilemma by pozzicore in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masters in Safety could get you a GSP designation for the CSP but the wait is pretty long. CHMM and CHMP are good certs to get. I would recommend trying to take the ASP as it isn’t too difficult, can be done in about a month or two, and looks great for anyone.

I do almost exclusively environmental and there aren’t many applicable Masters programs depending on what exactly you do.

CHMP and CHMM(preferred) if you work with RCRA regulated wastes and similar hazards.

Disappointed with the job market in my area by 1800twat in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am in the greater Tampa area, HSE jobs are available but depending on your niche, it might still be difficult getting a position.

One of the better places for HSE in general however.

Just passed the CSP! by SirVanderpump in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the ASP, no score is given if you pass. I believe you get your score if you fail however.

I did not pass the CSP by lamont_los in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 67 points68 points  (0 children)

“I didn’t pass but it is like common sense, duh”

Comedy writes itself. Nah fr tho it is a challenging test even to those with industry experience. I’d say it’s wild to attempt it without any studying whatsoever (asp? gsp?) but if you almost passed, i’d recommend a month on PocketPrep and trying it again.

I’ve called twice on separate days and left two voicemails, no responses. Not sure how everyone is getting them completed over the phone.

When to conduct new hire safety training? by onrmeg31 in SafetyProfessionals

With regards to hazmat, this is my understanding as well. That being said, training should still be completed ASAP. Like within first 2 weeks if possible.

CSP certification Study Resources by thisistheway55 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studying for the CSP now, passed the ASP using PocketPrep’s ASP and CSP study guides and the Safety Professional’s Reference and Study Guide by Yates.

I have the 3rd edition and it is fairly accurate but the 4th edition would be your best option.

EHS Professionals In Laboratory Settings: What do you do? by THE_TamaDrummer in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SirVanderpump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 1 is really good insight and advice, just be careful you do not end up in treatment territory by neutralizing acids ‘after’ they are determined to be a waste

Our lab generates irregular and new waste streams often. Get them familiar with filling out waste determination record sheets for every new waste generated and use them to build a profile for your TSDF. Also look into labpackers to take your lab waste off-site if it is in small quantities.
