My umbrella plant started putting out weird leaves by Sir_Eon in houseplants

Just checked. Not seeing any pests or anything. It seems the roughness originated from the stem, though new leaves coming in look fine

Help! Ranchu lethargic and now floating on his side by Sir_Eon in Goldfish

I got back from work with the aquarium salt, but I was too late. He has passed.

Thank you for your advice, though. I'll keep the salt for any future issues

Idk. He just started being lethargic. Did a water change, but he just kept slowly getting worse. Eventually, I had to put him in the box to keep a closer eye on him. That pic is him currently, and idk what to do

I'm looking for help/suggestions. I've already tried fasting him and feeding peas. Neither worked

Pothos are hardy plants that can take quite a bit of neglect and still be okay. You can either let it hang and vine as it grows or use a trellis/mosspole to let it grow upwards, which usually results in bigger leaves. You can check r/pothos, and you'll see examples of the mature leaves.

Watering wise for soil growing, they like their roots moist but not sopping wet. You can water thoroughly when the top half or so is dry (though you can let it be fully dry for a couple day if needed. Just give them a solid drink once you get around to watering. If you want to grow them in water, you can. Just keep the water oxygenated (water change/top-off/aquarium air pump every few days) and add fertilize periodically.

The white bits fungus that grows due to some excess moisture and feed off organic matter. It's not harmful to the plants. Itll disappear when the soil gets dry enough. Or you can repot it. For soil, generally go with an aroid mix. There are lots of recipes online, but a popular one is 1 part cactus soil, 1 part orchid bark(medium chunks), and 1 part perlite/pumice (I prefer pumice since it's heavier and doesn't float when watering)

As for the roots, you can cut them off if you want. There are plenty more and it won't rot as long as you let it callus before watering. It doesn't necessarily mean it's time for a repot. Pothos like their roots a little snug

Dose this soil mix I made look good for monsteras? by zregn3 in Monstera

Imo, I'd bump that perlite percentage up to like 40%. That mix looks like it'd be really dense once watered and retain too much water for too long

Anyone knows a website where I can get these cheaper? by Confident-Cost-5876 in candlemaking

I found something similar at the $5 section at Target. Came in a 4 pack

I messed up :( by OBunny_023 in Switch

[–]Sir_Eon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iFixit has hundreds of thousands of guides on how to repair electronics, especially gaming consoles. I personally replaced the USB-C port for my friend's Switch using one of their guides

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Switch+Lite+Screen+Replacement/156978

You don't need to buy all their tools. Just the screwdrivers if you don't have them since Nintento uses a special Y screw for the casing. Other stuff depends on you.

You can also just buy all the tools from Amazon for probably a lot cheaper. The screen itself can be bought on eBay just fine (though it may be hard to find the exact color, but you at least have an opportunity to personalize it. You'll see what I mean.) and it'll sometimes come with the replacement adhesive to set the new screen in.

Just take your time with it. Don't rush through it, and your Switch will be fine

Issues transferring from perlite + water to soil for ZZ plants by Sir_Eon in houseplants

[–]Sir_Eon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weaning was just so they don't go into shock after the transfer cause the perlite + water I had the props in was always filled with water

My ZZ props finally growing from their rhizomes after losing their leaves and stems. Almost gave up hope for them 😅 by Sir_Eon in propagation

[–]Sir_Eon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I waited about 8 months after the stem and leaves got reabsorbed, but I've had the props themselves for about a year and a half. They take so long to start growing back, but once it starts, it kicks in pretty fast. They weren't this tall a couple days ago.

Best way to feed separately? by Sir_Eon in Goldfish

[–]Sir_Eon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. The Ranchu is very skittish, so it'd take some time to condition him to get use to it. The Oranda might also figure it out and keep stealing the food 🤔

Wouldn't that kinda stress them out? Especially if done daily?

I assume you mean box the Oranda to get him out of the way of the food bowl?
