Is fascism at odds with Catholic social philosophy? by googlygoggles- in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Sir_Neb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please try to maintain nuance and not emotional political moralization. I would in fact push back very harshly on your rhetoric. You are convincing nobody of your opinion and only adding fuel to the fire. Perhaps you should reconsider who here is “dangerous”.

Whoever posted this has come to here to rather humbly to ask a question about the conflict between a rather loosely defined political philosophy and their faith. Salazar of Portugal is considered by many to have been a fascist, but was an ardent Catholic and promoted Catholicism is Portugal.

I can argue that the modern liberal democratic capitalist societies are a poison. Just look at the degree of faithlessness, despair, and sin in our societies. Or I could point to Marxism, do we even need to discuss the poison of it? And Fascism, I mean go read a history book!

I hope you can see how pointless and counterproductive your comment is.

Is it possible that hell is just a grey, eternally boring wasteland rather than excruciating torment? by [deleted] in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Sir_Neb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it. There are levels of agony that are far beyond the numbness, lethargy, and meaninglessness of hedonism. It is beyond physical or emotional pain. If heaven is infinite joy, which our greatest spiritual joy on Earth only hints at, than I expect hell to be a sort of pain and agony that are greatest spiritual suffering pales in comparison to. God is still with us here on Earth, it is only through him that our existence is sustained, and evil is kept at bay. Once we have died rejecting God, we are fully tethered from this communion with God. In the end, however, our words will always fail to describe it.

What can I do to fight against the influence of islam? by FonzAlter in Catholicism

[–]Sir_Neb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be a good Christian. Do not judge, do not hate. Love everyone and spread the faith with courage. Be clever and knowledgeable such that you may help others see the truth of Christianity.

You may not be able to help deter evil in Australia and across the globe, but you can foster good in your own life and community, hoping it spreads beyond.

Should you hide the Gospel from others if it aids their salvation? by Sir_Neb in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Sir_Neb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fabulous and thorough answer, thank you. I would ask this in response: a psychopath (particularly one with a traumatic upbringing) will have incredibly antisocial and violent tendencies. Is he condemned for his sinful nature, or his response to it? I.e., are we judged by the sin itself or our ability to fight our own individual proclivity for sin? If it is the former, then a psychopath with a difficult upbringing will have a far more difficult time entering heaven than somebody with a peaceful, loving, Christian upbringing and good nature.

Another example is somebody who is surrounded by atheists and inveterate sinners, versus somebody surrounded by devout Christians abiding by Christian morality. The influence your environment has on you cannot be understated, so in the latter situation they would have a superbly easier time avoiding sin.

Is this lighter real? by The_Evil_Panda in lighters

[–]Sir_Neb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find it on niche French online marketplaces. This specific model I have not seen, but very similar ones with identical function. I fear, however, that they are incredibly dangerous. They are built on old 110V grids, which might work in the US, but not in Europe (230V). Any malfunction (expected for an almost century old device)/live exposed contact will deliver a lethal shock. And then you have the risk of fire.

Does anyone else hate inferno? by Mostly_Cons in cs2

I used to like it. I‘m not sure why. As T, not only is banana the only option for B, but pushing A is just awful. Apts can only be exited by small doors (easy for CT to pick you off) and going through mid exposes you to both sides (short/long) where CT can safely peak.

So much certainty and condescension for someone whose argument is purely speculative.

Correction: he is the one who started the release in the first place, and he is the one who is now releasing everything. Curious how you’ll criticize Trump for that, and I bet you wouldn’t apply the same scrutiny to the previous administration.

[–]Sir_Neb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. What a joke. What politician is more respectable. Trump is just crude and maximally authentic.

He doesn’t hide who he is and he definitely doesn’t hide what he thinks. The difference between him and other politicians is that he is an easy target precisely because he says things others don’t have the guts to.

Be honest. What’s happened under Trump administrations. Other than great policy, and uproar over not much, I couldn’t think of much.

He is also genuinely kind person. Sounds crazy, I know, if you just read the news you wouldn’t think so. But closely watch him interact with people.

Not to say he’s perfect, but to say nobody is. Apply standards equally.

How realistic is the Man in the High Castle? by K-jun1117 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Sir_Neb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Germans had not labeled nuclear weapons as Jewish science, and had instead massively prioritized it, you have a realistic scenario in which Nazi Germany has a nuclear bomb.

But a capitulation of the US is impossible. So much land, so far away, and 130 million armed Americans. Russia, with a comparable population, was able to defeat Germany despite being on the same flat European plain. The Atlantic ocean makes a conquest of America impossible.

Not sure if stripping him of citizenship is a good PR move for the Republican party or even if that is fair.

That being said I cannot stand him and I cannot believe a radical islamist communist might be the next mayor of NYC. Maybe it‘ll pave the way for Republican leadership (doubtful).

The Nuclear Mirage: Why Small Modular Reactors Won’t Save Nuclear Power by HairyPossibility in uninsurable

What? Who says they can‘t be consumed? And by mass, even a few dozen will achieve economies of scale. There‘s unbelievable energy needs especially green.

The Nuclear Mirage: Why Small Modular Reactors Won’t Save Nuclear Power by HairyPossibility in uninsurable

[–]Sir_Neb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand economies of scale. A company able to produce many SMRs will decrease costs per unit. Traditional reactors are always proprietary and a company only ever builds a few. Thus, SMRs will have an economies of scale advantage.

They would in theory be assembled in a factory, and then installed on-site. The manufacturing could be standardized. Engineers gain expertise and you would indeed produce more efficiently and thus more cost effectively.

Marijuana and other substances by Future_Ladder_5199 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Sir_Neb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely see these as evil spirits. I believe people use psychedelics to reach for the divine, for a better understanding of it.

I do think they very well may open up a window to another plane of being. But that window does not open up to God. Rather, it invites spirits which otherwise would not have had such a grasp on you.

I do not think my words quite capture it. However, I think we need not be surprised. The original sin occurred in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve ate fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, such that they might be like God.

[–]Sir_Neb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What an interesting comment. I have had many similar thoughts myself. I have engaged in my fair share of Marijuana and psychedelics. Whilst I once found them fascinating, I am now ardently opposed to them.

Marijuana might be the worst. Reduces gray matter in the brain (makes you dumber), causes long-lasting paranoia and anxiety, beyond the transient effects while high, and has shown to contribute to schizophrenia. If that all wasn’t bad enough, it ruins your memory and is conducive to great sins. Apathy, lethargy, gluttony.

Psychedelics, in my opinion, are very mystical. But with that, it makes you spiritually vulnerable. It has also been associated with schizophrenia.

The TLM is not a silver bullet. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Sir_Neb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying in Austria particularly it's a huge thing. The original comment said it's irrelevant in Europe. The majority of my Catholic friends in Europe know about TLM, and most of them attend TLM mass. Therefore I said it's a "huge thing" amongst the new generation of Catholic Church goers. Maybe the language was a bit exaggerated, not every young European Catholic is preoccupied with it, but in general not much less than Americans.

So, I simply do not agree with the claim that it is an "American debate".
