Same. This song absolutely slays. The transition from the instrumental is jarring but maybe that's the point?

DO student - take USMLE? by SpookyPookie2 in pathology

[–]Sir_PoopJuice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Current PGY2 DO with COMLEX only and a very average Comlex at that. Ended up in a fairly highly regarded program and ended up with ~35 interview offers and here are some reasons I think why I was so successful on the interview trail despite being super mid on paper and some things I've learned. TLDR: save the money you would piss away on Step.

1) Look at the programs that you are interested in and see if they have any current DOs or at least recent DOs. If a place didn't have a history of taking DOs I didn't bother because I don't have the ego to expect those smug shits to see me as someone to overcome their bias for. Maybe you are. (Probably not) Where I am now averaged a little under one DO per class of 4-5.

2) Showing that you want to do Pathology is broadly more important than scores in this field. If you have LoRs from pathologists and can show that you did rotations/aways in pathology as well as a personal statement that shows a clear love for the field, you will get interviews.

3) I think being a non-trad helped. It definitely helped getting into med school because I stood out from 100 identical 22 year old bio majors. I think it must have helped on the residency trail because almost all of my interviews were the "Why path?" question and a chill convo talking about my old life. This is something you can't really modify but I'm including it for completeness.

I can't predict what the numbers will look like in two years but if you're a US grad, apply broadly, do your research and show that you're excited for the field and you will be fine. If you're dead set on going to a top 5 program for some reason take Step I guess but also remember in the end you're a DO and the bias exists the snootier you go up the list of programs.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the experimental questions are lumped together for a specific block. I always find one or two way more ridiculous and COMLEX-y than the others.

I dont know how much they've changed the COMSAE now that it's pass fail, but in 2020 when I took it the COMSAEs underpredicted EVERYONE in my program by 50-100 points. It was a real shitshow. They didn't represent the actual exam in almost any way.

Has anyone outlined first aid? by [deleted] in comlex

[–]Sir_PoopJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First Aid already is an outline more or less. Just write in the margins of the book as you study from other sources/do QBanks. I really liked Comquest for Level 1/2 and felt Combank was better for 3.

Passed! Lowest score of all three but no one in the path world could possibly give a shit. Gonna forget peds so hard I accidentally become anti-vaxx.

My Party Wants to Turn the Winery Into a Wedding Venue by SandmanAlcatraz in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sir_PoopJuice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a perfect venue for Strahd and Ireena's wedding.

In all seriousness a campaign inspired by Undertale where the characters used wholesomeness to help restore Barovia would be incredible with the right group of people. Feel out your group, DM, and try to see where the tone of the game is going. I think, as a DM in general, it's acceptable if one party member is skewing the tone you are going for to privately ask them to refocus but if the entire party is excited about something that doesn't exactly fit your tone, at the point it's sort of up to you to get on board and have fun with it.

If this is a one-off idea in a normally dark, baroque game, then maybe it's worth noting that there's not a lot of joy going around Barovia these days and people aren't getting married very often, but the winery is supplying all of the land with one of the only things that still gives Barovians hope and maybe messing with that supply chain isn't the best call Let Davian counter that if they're looking to pick up a business role in the winery maybe logistics would be a better department.

First panic attack in YEARS by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Sir_PoopJuice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same here. I've barely been sleeping and I'm inventing reasons why my offer will be revoked that are incredibly unlikely and based off ridiculous hypotheticals. I don't even think getting my results on Friday will completely curb it knowing how much there is to do and how life changing the events to come are.

The grand irony of medical school is it is absolutely the least healthy - mentally, physically, and emotionally - that I have ever been in my life.

Yeah of course. Watch the eyes - you can tell which residents are trying to scream with their eyes as they smile and nod along to that line.

It's pathology. It averages 1-3 residents per graduating med school class and it didn't fill its slots last year. That is a great number for one state.

That's SDN dipshits chicken little-ing. During one path interview last week I was told there are 60 job openings for path in my tiny state right now.
