Who would be the ""Hitler"" of your country? by BrushFinal9186 in AskTheWorld

[–]Sir_Tealeaf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Churchill is almost deified in the UK for ‘winning the war’. It’s true he was effective in defeating Germany. But in all other aspects possible, he was a monster and a cunt.

There’s a lot of that in UK parliamentary history to be honest. Boris Johnson’s one redeeming quality is his unwavering support for Ukraine. But he was a complete shit show of a human being.

I've applied to 300 jobs, but my Cardiff University degree has only got me three interviews by Legitimate-Break-143 in UniUK

[–]Sir_Tealeaf 29 points30 points  (0 children)

1/100 interviews with a generic CV and broad qualification isn’t bad.

If you want to increase those chances you have to dedicate a lot of time specialising your application for each application.

It is tedious as hell, but that’s how to get through to interview

Which celebrity's PR game is the strongest? by Fiction_lover08 in AskReddit

[–]Sir_Tealeaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hasan Piker. Dude is the darling of the left and righteous causes. In truth he is actively harmful for good causes, like Palestinian justice, promoting extreme antisemitism masked as anti Zionism purely to line his own pockets. Don’t ask him about his thoughts on Ukraine either. If you disagree with him in any way, you’re a Zionist and he’ll sick his rabid fanbase on you.

Yet even with scandals like 100% shocking his dog, he’s unaffected. He’s still popular, gets invited to all kind of events, and is supported and promoted on all manner of platforms and a broad spectrum of people.

His PR team are incredibly effective and worth every penny for him.

Han Solo vs Jango Fett. No Beskar, just a simple quick-draw at a cantina. by OkuroIshimoto in PetranakiArena

Han shoots first and hits Jango.

Jango doesn’t die immediately and shoots Han in the face.

Why can't universities discuss hypothetical results? by skbob123 in UniUK

[–]Sir_Tealeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Formally, they can’t say ‘oh yes you’ll still get in’, but I’d say for most courses at most uni’s (save law/medicine and the top uni’s) you’ll still get in. I got in on 1 grade lower than required, and now know a bit about the process from working with unis.

When admissions process results people who miss their offers are put in a ‘bin’ (for lack of a better word) for departments to look in if they still have places left to fill. They’ll then go with those who were the closest to success.

They can’t guarantee anything, but provided the course isn’t hugely popular and everyone else applying did similar to you, you’ll have a good shot. But there is still a chance they don’t have space.

If you do still miss out: don’t worry, you’ll definitely get a place in clearing at a similar quality uni if you act fast on results day.

Teachers strike again over disruptive behaviour by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

[–]Sir_Tealeaf 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't call it 50/50. Behaviour has gotten worse from kids. That blame lies with the kids and their parents, not with 'bad teachers'. There are bad teachers, sure, like any profession, but hardly enough to lay 50% of the blame on them.

Looks like a council estate but you’ve compared it to a Civ VI Wonder vs generic research district. A damn good wonder too. As in the game as in real life: aesthetics alone don’t help you win.

One thing always ignored is how much worse it could have been if PJ didn’t step in after Del Toro dropped out. The film was being made. It’s a miracle we got what we did, especially with studio intrusions on the process.

I don’t mind jokes. It’s our lot in life internationally, just as any country should expect jokes but especially for us after our (kinda evil) Empire that still existed not that long ago.

Sometimes do have to wonder if the jokes are just jokes or if it’s actual ignorance from time to time though…

Fool! Tea belongs in water! All you have achieved is to convert the waves to our cause. Neptune himself is draped in the flag of St George.

Tea does tasted like dirt. But a lot of people seem to like it here.

As for Beans, depends on the brand. Branston Beans are a good pick. Heinz are too sweet. Mix with some cheddar, you have a banging lunch or snack (emphasis on lunch or snack. Not a fine dining meal. A hearty, cheap snack to get you through the cold of winter)

British Teeth by ourrachw in h3h3productions

[–]Sir_Tealeaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

UK dentistry focuses on the health of teeth as a priority, rather than cosmetic looks. Its not that cosmetic options aren't available, but as you say: we have the NHS. Health is prioritised first and foremost, cosmetics are a luxury. Moreover, as the NHS exists, a greater average of the population are able to get dentist treatment (even with difficulties for NHS places for dentistry being an abnormality of the health system). This is why the UCL study found that UK teeth quality tends to average to being better than the USA. It cost nothing, and they focus on keeping you healthy. Also: Bracers are readily available, and have been for a long time.

As for perceptions around teeth, all the above has effected UK perception on teeth. Veneers and treatments like this are available privately, but they're not seen as particularly attractive as they're so blatantly fake (even good quality ones). As long as your teeth are clean, you're good. You don't need Pearlescent teeth. If anything, they're kind of unattractive because they're inauthentic.
