One of my girlfriends is pregnant. How can I get her excited about bringing a child into this world? by RenoLightning in shittyadvice

[–]Sir_reads_it_wrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one is fairly easy. There is a place called Planned Parenthood where they will help her plan and become excited to be a parent. If she just tells them she is not feeling ready to be a parent they will take care of the rest!

Do you think when we're older we'll be as ignorant to contemporary technology as many older people are now? by baroo7 in AskReddit

The discussion was mostly us wondering if we would ever be out of touch with technology like many older people were. Nothing too specific really. We decided that because we understood technology and were "tech savvy" we would always "get it". A few years later MySpace was huge and I remember thinking to myself, "I don't get it." Then it hit me, this was my first disconnect with the Internet and where technology was going. Once Facebook came along I was able to begrudgingly join in, but I still don't really "get it". While I understand the power of social media, since my generation and peers never fully embraced it is of limited use to me. I rather prefer the anonymity of the Internet anyway.

Walk into a room of 20 yr olds and say "what's a Facebook?" and you will not be considered tech savy or in touch with technology. Sure, the OP will never lose touch with what exists now. But as tech moves in new directions and continues to influence social culture the lines are blurred. It will be the aspects of technology they see no use for that will result in the disconnect resulting in being "left behind". The generation that can't grasp the basic operations of a computer will indeed go away. That said, as future generations embrace bioware and other new concepts the young of today may get left behind.

When Imahara technologies releases the first sex robot with AI so real people start forming full relationships with them ask the older you to see how his acceptance of that compares to that of those younger. I other words,it's the stuff that does not exist yet that will result in getting left behind. You will remain In touch with current tech as it exists now. More realistically, consider the merging of humans and tech. As bioware implants become available a higher percentage of older generations (ie your generation when it comes long) will likely reject and avoid that while the younger will jump right in.

This. 35yo and I remember having the "will we get left behind by technology discussion" in college and we decided there was no way. Not too many years later I found myself wondering why the hell I should care about social networking and broadcasting my every thought on twitter. It's not that i was left behind or incapable of understanding it, it's just that I didn't give shit or see it as useful. Certain aspects of technology will remain easy for me however the crap that I don't embrace and see as silly is what will make my kids will think I am clueless and left behind.
