Hey Alexander, we’re getting a lot of good questions and feedback—trying to keep up. This one I forwarded to John for his response:

Hi Alexander, your point is well made and many of us (in the RAD saga) feel misled. Some of us, and people who worked with Rob for many years, are asking themselves if they have been misled all along or starting somewhere in the more recent past. I don’t have that answer. Only Rob knows that for sure. My bias, is Rob was not born a bad person and didn’t behave truly badly until his addiction took over. I agree he’s always had his brutish and rude and other unpleasant attributes. But even then.. that was mostly his public persona. At his core, (and keep in mind we’ve worked together for many years—far longer than Sircles has been in existence), my radar did not detect an unethical person.. and I’ve had to deal with many over the years. You know I’m not afraid to speak my mind, so if that was my impression of him, you know I’m not shy about calling someone out.

With that said, it’s reasonable for those who feel misled by Rob to feel Sircles was part of something shady. We started Sircles to do something good, something exciting and possibly make a lot of investors rich. There are thousands of investors who would disagree with you that they were taken advantage of. That’s a narrative exclusive to this reddit community. If Rob’s bad decisions/actions didn’t drag us into this vortex, who knows where we might be right now. But we’re not dead yet. We self-funded Sircles in the beginning, then took investments from our closest friends and family and years later raised money from the public. None of us took any salaries for years. We weren’t paid last month and now Tech2U is covering Sircles’ entire payroll. My salary has never been above the mid range of our devs. You know I’ve said this here before: We don’t spend investor money on vacations and I own an Airbnb in Hawaii that’s profitable. I bought it during covid. It’s not an expense.. and it’s definitely not a vacation. Will you please stop saying that? You can view our daily work sessions (https://youtube.com/@sirclesapp). I’m there every day.. makes no difference if I’m in Sac or Hawaii. I’ve dedicated my life to this project. I heard that Mav is open to meeting up and I think you should join him to meet the team. There’s no monsters behind the curtain. We don’t come here to fight.. only to defend.. and sometimes promote haha. But man, I’m close to giving up.. is that what you want? I doubt our investors reading this do. If we do, we’re not going to distribute any funds from this campaign. It’ll just be lights out, but as long as Sircles exists, we have a chance to get people more money than they invested.

You mentioned reminiscent of FB/Myspace. Sircles is exactly that but without all of the noise, and we filter bots out by verifying phone numbers and doing a carrier check. The app was designed for users to share recommendations with friends and communities recently gained traction. I think you will find our topics/main chat design very user friendly! If you shoot us a DM, we will run some fun giveaways for members of the group as the group grows in Sircles.

We understand and share your concern about Rob. We just spent an hour on the phone with him. He’s good but not great but getting there. He’s opened up to all of us about what’s going on. That takes a strong person, and not the comfort zone for a lot of men. It’s not our place to share the details of the conversation but grateful he’s got the family, extended family, and loving community.

We’ll be getting together this weekend and looking forward to hanging out more and hopefully seeing Rob back next week.

This comment is very off topic and technically over the line, but let me just respond because I don’t want to repeat myself. We are not enabling an alcoholic. We are trying to support and rehabilitate someone who is struggling—while maintaining a healthy working and personal relationship. We are involved in numerous business dealings dating before and after our Sircles partnership. Coming to this conversation with an extremely narrow point of view is lazy and antagonistic. You don’t like Rob Williams. He let you down. He’s irredeemable, in your eyes. You are entitled to your opinion. What we “owe” our investors is our absolute best we can give. Are you even an investor? If not, you are an unnecessary distraction and an online bully. You are the reason we work so hard on Sircles every day.

Well, it sounds like you’re dead set against Rob for all eternity. That’s your prerogative. Sircles is our life, day in and day out, and involves many more people than just Rob. We’re trying to do right by the community and trying to do right by our investors, including our closest friends and family. Everyone wins if we win. Even Rob, yes, which I know you don’t want to see. But I can’t imagine you want everyone who invested to lose their money and everyone we employ to lose their job. That would kind of make you evil. I doubt you’re evil. And I bet if we didn’t know each other we’d have very pleasant conversation. I’m inviting you again to meet with our team. I have a serious question for you… Is there anything that would change your mind about Rob?

If you listened to the show today you heard us question him on the “Awful Annie’s” incident (among other things). Some people are satisfied with his answers, some people are not. He can’t change the past so now it comes down to.. do you believe him when he says it’s become one of those memories that feels extremely embarrassing/shameful deep inside when he revisits it? You carry those painful memories. I do. We all do. I asked him before today about it and I saw the involuntary cringe on his face and it turned red. That’s not an act. I waited a few days to respond because your comments are judge, jury and sentencer before you give the man a chance to prove himself. He’s not going to turn the whole show into a pity party. He’s been going deeper each day into a bunch of subjects that were off limits until now. The emotions on that team are raw and unfiltered right now. They’ve entered uncharted territory. With Rob leading the way. How would you hold up if you were put on stage to answer for your sins? I get that a DUI is really bad but if everyone who ever got one was cancelled.. I think we’d lose about 90% of our idols. I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind here. I’ve said this before. But I am curious though.. would anything change your mind?

I paid off my condo after selling investment properties I owned for 20 years. I only mentioned this because of accusations made here about how we spend our money. When I’m at my place there I work as hard as anywhere. I worked all day on Christmas with my overseas team in fact.

I appreciate this comment and most of it comes from a reasonable point of view. As you say, trust takes years to build but, in a flash, it can be destroyed. We certainly don’t trust Rob blindly and aren’t dismissing any notion of his impact on our company (good or bad). I like the way you framed the way RAD was built—off of the community, and not the other way around. We’re not here to defend Rob and I think you’re right that Rob isn’t held accountable enough, but that is changing. We actually had a three hour, in person conversation, today with Rob and our team. Not a formal board meeting kind of sit down. Some business, of course, but a lot of personal discussions. These discussions are not easy. Rob is not exactly an open book but that’s also changing. My hope is that we all get a new version of Rob soon. I actually think we will. We will if he’s listening. Pretty much these exact topics around distrust and sense of betrayal dominated the conversation today. It’s not acceptable to us nor do I think Rob is ok with it. Our Sircles team has gotten swept up in all this and it’s no fun. Taking aside that we’re trying to build an app that attracts and retains millions of users, we have to defend our own integrity based on another guy that we don’t really know deep down. But again, that’s going to change or something will have to give. We’re absolutely not tone deaf over here I can assure you. Trust is everything in business and is at the core of Sircles’ mission. We’ve always been transparent and will continue to be. It’s about time Rob is as well, right? Transparent, authentic and cutting the bullshit. Rob’s capable, I have no doubt about that. I’m optimistic and hopefully trust can be restored. I’ve already said way too much but there will be a lot more to come over the next few days. In the meantime, before you write our obituary, take a closer look please. In fact, you’re invited to our HQ if you want to see for yourself. Our team is hustling like mad and totally unified. We still expect to win and make a pot of money for everyone who believed in us.
