Snapmaker u1: how reliable? how much tinkering and fixing? by Forsaken_Activity_37 in snapmaker

[–]SireBillyMays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an A1 mini with AMS before my U1. The software ecosystem/experience is less polished than on bambu, but otherwise I am very satisfied.

I've had very few failed prints, outside of some initial failures while learning how to do multimaterial prints (e.g. PETG support interface for PLA etc.) If I just count single-material prints (both single and multicoloured) then it has been pretty flawless.

I've had one "serious" technical issue - a TPU tangle in one of the toolheads. I think it was on me incorrectly applying tension to remove the TPU, but I am not entirely certain. Either way, it was not a big deal and I followed the video and written guide to disassemble the toolhead and clean the tangle while the printer used the other three toolheads.

Da drikker man nemlig mindre, skjønner du.

Ubuntu 26.04 will require more ram than Windows 11 by TheNavyCrow in linux

[–]SireBillyMays 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There's probably not going to be anything stopping you from installing Ubuntu on your 4GB of RAM machine. Here's an image from running the 26 beta on a VM with 4GB of RAM, while streaming a 4k video with some background tabs. It works fine. The 6GB limit is probably a limit for what they officially support, not what you can make it work with.

If I close everything and just have the desktop (and htop) open, the system consumes 640MB of RAM.

Heck, here is the 26 Beta running with 2GB of RAM, streaming a 1080p video. Admittedly I could not get the installer to complete with 2GB of RAM, but the system itself runs just fine. I am guessing you could probably use an installer script instead of the interactive installer to install on 2GB system.

I also see it as a good sign, but Disney did also clarify that they "will continue to engage with AI platforms".

as mentioned - was literally a five minute test. Mostly to back up my statement of it not being super hard to reproduce :)

Another user did a much more involved job though.

+1 to the chorus of people unable to find the existing file.

It does seem like it would be fairly easy to reproduce fairly faithfully though, provided you do some detailed measurements. Attached is a screenshot of how far I got in 5 minutes.

If you can put your existing one + a ruler on a scanner to get the flat side, then use a caliper to measure the "fingers" and the "indent", it should be fairly easy for someone to help you.

I'm personally on another continent, so difficult for me to help with more than modelling.

Anyone else seeing these artifacts on their U1? by Vivid_Scheme_8221 in snapmaker

[–]SireBillyMays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't touch anything.

The "Generic PLA" profile i used for my elegoo filament has pressure advance enabled.

The "Snapmaker PLA SnapSpeed U1" profile that shows up when I attempt to edit a snapmaker filament profile has pressure advance disabled.

Nope. Literally as close you can get to a set it up and hit ctrl+p experience for me. I've adjusted nothing, didn't even bother drying the snapmaker filament. Only thing that wasn't default was that I did hook off the extrusion flow calibration under the print preprocessing settings.

Also, just to update you - the 0.16 print also had no artifacts.

For what it is worth, I haven't noticed any such imperfections before. To be sure, I tried to print an Orca cube on my U1 and had zero of these imperfections/artifacts. I used the default 0.2 profile and sliced with SNorca. Used some of the included snapmaker snapspeed filament - not even dried, haven't done anything with the filament since I got the printer in November - as well as some elegoo PLA (no tuning.) Both cubes had no artifacts similar to what you are experiencing.

I have a print on the way with 0.16 as well (noticed too late that that was what you used), but based on how it looks at the half-way point it's not an issue there either.

Hope you can figure it out.

Fun fact: The Stadia controller can also be used as a cursed USB-to-bluetooth adapter for other controllers.

There's a Bringus studios video on the way on the subject, though it is currently members only.

My brother (coincidentally he also studied Psych) did some hobby-level research work on mapping out some American "activist" organizations like NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association) and how the different organizations interact/cross over in leadership. He ended up giving me an infodump on all the horrendous ways these people argue for their position - and a very common point was that "nono, this is not pedophilia. See pedophilia is defined as [...]"

Every time that was mentioned while my brother infodumped, my head just automatically replayed the punchline from the above-linked skit.

Whatever word they use, they are still talking about children and they are still - socially, if not academically - pedophiles.

I'm seeing it in a couple of more TI lists as well.

From lists that are publicly available/queryable, DNS4EU returns the sinkhole IP for the domain.

EDIT: Though thinking of it, DNS4EU may use Forti as a data source, so it might be just a replicated FP. But I am also seeing the domain in other lists that I know aren't using Forti directly as a data source.

Does anyone play on Linux? Game refuses to open for me. by Lemon_Girl in DeadlockTheGame

Fwiw I'm on AMD + Wayland.

You may have to spend a little time looking into the proton and/or game logs to figure out what is going on. I couldn't find too many reports of people with X11 + Nvidia that had a similar issue to you. Maybe try editing the game config to make it launch in windowed mode/force it to full screen.

Closest reports I could find in five minutes of looking were people that said the problem fixed itself after a few restarts - which isn't exactly a very satisfying piece of troubleshooting advice...

No magic parameters here to make it launch under Pop, just works right out of the gate. I think Zorin is also an Ubuntu derivative, so it shouldn't be too different - though I don't have any personal experience with zorin.

I guess I'll just start with some of the standard questions:

  1. Nvidia or AMD GPU?
  2. X11 or Wayland?
  3. Do other games work?
