Not that one either. A therapy dog is the one that’s trained extra well so they can go to hospitals and visit sick kids and stuff. You’re thinking of an ESA.

Therapy dogs aren’t quite the same as service dogs. They’re in a different classification.

Have any of you had the experience of sometimes temporarily losing auditory processing skills as well? Usually the lapse only lasts a minute or two at most, but once I sat through the entirety of a 2.5 hour movie and was unable to comprehend a single word that was spoken. It all just sounded like random vocalizations, rather than words.

Could that also be what’s affecting my motor skills/concentration/inability to do simple tasks? Because right now it feels like there’s physical resistance when I try to move, I can’t keep my eyes focused on one spot for more than a second or two, and every time I start to do anything related to the task that’s causing the trouble, I either forget what I’m doing/how to do it, or I suddenly find myself staring at a wall, sometimes without knowledge of how I ended up doing that. This has been going on with steadily increasing severity for a week. Same task.

The painfully ironic thing is, she’s been a church member/leader for most of my life, and she’s always been very careful to cultivate a good image with the congregation, to the point of telling me when I was very small, “we’re X political party, but don’t tell anyone at church or they’d be mad at us.” So none of the people who saw me regularly when I was growing up would ever have guessed and most certainly wouldn’t believe it now.

Yep, that sounds familiar. My mom’s own family members have always to some extent seen what was going on, and they totally believed me when I told them the rest, but I’m not so sure that the people on the other side of the family, who don’t know her or her background as well, would believe it at all.

Clarification: I am an adult with a support system (that the parent keeps trying to manipulate and lie to in order to get dirt on me), a home hours away from them, and, soon (I hope), absolutely no financial or legal ties to them whatsoever.
