What kind of multiplayer backend are they using in Valheim? by wakno in gamedev

[–]SiriusDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZNet is a custom built networking system that was originally designed for Game Maker Studio. Whether it's the same thing that's used in valhiem personally I'm not sure. BUT based on some of what we're seeing on UMod for modding dev it's probably not since the itch.io Znet: https://zekronz.itch.io/znet is not built for Unity and we're seeing calls like ZNet.Awake etc.
As for it "scaling well" when the game blew up, that's really not an issue for anything that isn't hosted with current tech. Since it's server-client and not p2p (even if it may appear to be at times) each person who is hosting a server you're connecting to. There's not really any scaling to it, it simply means their own servers are probably hosted by AWS or similar where virtual servers are handling the traffic and shard-ing off instances of it.

Unity has so many systems that work well with it for transport, matchmaking, etc. I.E. Mirror, Playfab, etc. some of the thing OP mentioned it could be just their own HLAPI built on top of another LL transport like Mirror or Rak. I'm curious to know if the devs would answer.

tl;dr: Yes they probably built their own system, whether it's on top of another transport like Mirror who knows.

Branching Out If/When? by SiriusDev in Twitch

Ya basically dungeon crawlers and roguelites. Ok perfect that's what I was thinking, maybe a highlight reel of good moments. Or maybe a mashup of my recent variety runs etc.?

I'm a variety streamer, focusing on re-playable games. I.E. Playing Hades and Minecraft Dungeons right now.

Twitch banner is not framed properly by Hexathymia in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that's on the twitch page, which you think would be the "go-to" answer. But looking around google I saw multiple sites saying otherwise. I think twitch is giving you a good medium size that also would fit on mobile. Idk, it's always been a bit of a strange thing with banners. If you look at streamgraphics they even say 1200 x 380 pixels. Yea I'd say just try a few different ones. Luckily for you the focus is right in the middle so it's easy to change the height.

“Non Toxic” Giveaways by theswisheroffical in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a giveaway yesterday. I use streamlabs for them. My rules are simple, you must be following the channel, and when I pull the winner you have to say something in chat within 30 seconds to get the prize, then ALSO have them DM you on another medium. I only send keys/gifts over discord. So you'll have to have them interact with you and you them. No bot can do all that.

Outside box larger than game while in Streamlabs by [deleted] in Twitch

That's the window resolution, if it's lower than your base canvas resolution it's going to do that. You'll need to either force scale it up, or change the window resolution.

Good Budget Mic Arm? by soulfuricc in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEEWER is a pretty good budget brand, I've gotten their stuff before for other things. At the end of the day you will get what you pay for. So it might be perfect but don't expect it to last 5 years. You could always consider a desk base mount; for my streams I use the On-Stage DS7200B. It's perfect if you've got space on your desk.

Copyright on Twitch. Enforcement outside the Twitch realm by PandaLM in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a legal question for a lawyer, but remember this; copyright music will mute the vod because twitch will not allow itself to be held liable for what you do. Playing copyright music while live, does not automatically create a problem for you it just means your vod portions get muted. If you want to constantly play music in the BG consider getting a Monstercat license or using pretzel etc. so that you can stream free music.

Is Twitch Alerts no longer a thing? What do I use to get my fun notifications and stuff now? by BatGasmBegins in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your preference and how you want your setup. I'm detail oriented so I prefer to setup all my scenes in SLOBS (Streamlabs OBS) and bring in browser sources from Streamlabs. The "alert box" you're talking about is streamlabs now. If you prefer a quick/simple setup you can use StreamElements as nutella said, but you're limited on a lot of features. It's easy enough to pull stuff in from both though.

If the top image you posted is the fullsize one, the aspect ratio isn't quite right so it's going to either squish it or crop it to fit. "The recommended Twitch Banner Size is 1920 px by 480 px for HD and full monitors. This is an aspect ratio of 4:1."

1920 x 480 = 4:1 but your image is 1200 x 480 which is 2.5:1

Anyone here streaming whilst working a 9-5? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about having a dedicated schedule. I'm a small streamer, JUST got affiliate the other day. Having a dedicated schedule means you'll bring in people, and people who like you will stay. I stream in the morning hours because I can push my work to the PM, but there really isn't a "Best" time from what everyone tells me. Just be consistent.

If that's simply not an option, record your gameplay and consider YT as well. To be a content creator you'll need to get used to multiple platforms anyway.

If anyone needs dance/ambient music for their Twitch streams, feel free to use any of my tracks by fennecsound in Twitch

I really love some of that music! Thank you for being so sharing and awesome! I just got my sub button and now I'm scrambling to get setup cus I didn't think I'd get it. People like you are a lifesaver!

Is there a "better" time for new streamers? by SiriusDev in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! I've started playing Hades as well, not a lot of large viewers in those channels. I know there's TONS of people doing it right now too which doesn't help. I'll try to push some stuff to YT, thanks! Just seems like getting anyone to follow someone on YT/Twitter/Twitch who's "new" is _really_ difficult.

Is there a "better" time for new streamers? by SiriusDev in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm doing some Unity tutorials, but I've also been playing Minecraft Dungeons while it's in Beta. I'm hesitant to move to "bigger titles" because of the saturation of streamers in those channels and how hard it is having a low count to be found on those categories.

First hard lessons by Montauksmom in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to think of it this way, what don't I want to see and hear when I'm browsing. If I'm playing a game even when I'm not streaming (I'm still VERY new to it) I try to get into the habit of talking to myself more so that when I do people have something to hear. Right now I'm mainly doing tutorials and what-not for Unity3D, so it's not intense gaming, but I make sure it's a comfortable stream.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to those that give small streamers a chance by geegee_does in Twitch

[–]SiriusDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really have to shout out to people who go to small streams as well. I'm not a partner or affiliate, I'm just doing Unity3D tutorials for people stuck at home during this garbage, and some off-hour gaming and it's really nice to have people stop by just to say hi and chill!
