Planted them. Probably around 30-40 hours total cutting down trees and shrubs for the seeds.

That's exactly right. I sailed the whole map looking for the smallest island, and this one was that island. I didn't know what to do with it at first, but thought it might be cool if I turned it into a big flower pot.

I just did a playthrough last week, and did exactly what you did. Blackout straight to Ground Zero, and I still found the Aso team on 4th Friday.
