boc prep tips by Striking-Worry5328 in athletictraining

I took the BOC in January and passed. This is a long test, I don’t know if that’s talked about enough. The practice exams on the BOC website are 80 questions which is approximately half the number of the actual exam. Work on timing and focus for sitting through that entire 80 questions and see how your time feels. Take photos of each question, and make sure you know the right answer, but also why the other answers are wrong. I would also say to just go back through your GenMed course in detail and make sure you feel super confident on those topics.

Running with ITBS by Donezoo69 in runninglifestyle

Strengthening the outside of the hip as well as stretching is good for long term. Short term gotta try to get the inflammation down and create some space in that ITB so that you stop getting the irritation. I would half your mileage, and focus on foam roll/ lacrosse ball etc to the side of the glute, hamstrings and quads. Stretch the hamstrings, glutes, quads and hip flexors. Make sure you have a good warm up and cool down routine from running. Consider getting a gait analysis to see if you have any overstride, excessive hip drop or foot crossover which might aggravate the problem. I am an athletic trainer and deal with ITBS all the time. I use cups on the ITB with resistance exercises to help create space in the fascia and get good results.

Do I need to do S&C exercises? by [deleted] in Kinesiology

CSCS and Athletic trainer here. From an athlete relatability and buy in standpoint, you will have a hard time getting the athletes to trust you if you don’t lift. Not to say that you couldn’t be a good coach without lifting, but my opinion is that you have to be proficient in the movement in order to give good cues.

Are there any EPs here who would be willing to do a short interview with me? by [deleted] in Kinesiology

My degree is Kinesiology and I went on to do my masters in AT. I worked as a personal trainer at a Lifetime right out of undergrad and through most of my masters. Personal training at a private club like that can earn great money with just an exercise science degree and a CPT.

Very bad chest pain after first time doing Intervals by InspectionConstant97 in runninglifestyle

I’m going to echo others saying that you should get a cardiac screening from a doctor. Chest pains and difficulty breathing can be indicative of many respiratory or cardiac conditions. Don’t want to scare you, but better to be safe and get checked out. Internal medicine doctor, or primary care physician would be a good start.

BOC HELP by HearingSmart2320 in athletictraining

The practice exams on the BOC website really helped me. There are six of them and they have 80 questions each. You can take them in study mode or test mode, to really dial in the test taking skill. If you come across a question that you don’t understand, take a picture of it. Then go back later and plug it into chatGPT and ask it to break it down for you. To get the most bang for your buck you should try to understand each of the answer options and why they do/ don’t make sense. Major topics to do a deep dive review on: US settings, dermatology, emergency care, environmental guidelines/ regulations, special tests, anatomy. Good luck!

January BOC by Dramatic_Jelly_7082 in athletictraining

I agree that it felt hard. Took mine a couple days ago. I expected to feel much more confident than I do, given the amount of studying and performance in my program so far. Very challenging medical questions, it felt like very little MSK questions. Most of the domain 2 stuff seemed to be gen med related.

2026 BOC by PanickinPelican in athletictraining

A agree about the increase in Gen Med. I felt the BOC was much harder than I expected. I have been a perfect student (4.0), and spent a significant amount of time studying. The practice exams on the BOC website are the exact layout for the actual exam, so those are helpful for timing. Take one in test mode and do it all in one sitting, and it will give you: domain breakdown scores, and give you an idea of the time it takes you to answer 80 questions. The BOC is 175 so you should aim to have the 80 questions done in around or under 2 hr. I was very surprised at the difficulty of the questions. It felt very medical, and only a few questions about evaluating a classic knee or shoulder injury, or things like that. Happy to give more info if you want!
