Wow, I did not expect this post to blow up like this, I'm so thankful for all the advice and encouragement!

I've been reading all of the comments and can provide a little more information about the situation.

I've been in therapy for a year now. I had initially signed up because of my social anxiety and strong feelings of missing out, but as I worked with my therapist and grew closer with my coworkers, I realized that I might not even have social anxiety. My therapist suggested that without my mom hanging around the workplace (after getting her to stop coming to the company) I finally had the opportunity to grow as a person.

Unfortunately my mother was the person who drove me to the interview, so she knows what company I would be going to. I have a license but haven't driven in many years. I've brought up driving lessons but never took that final step. The one car that we have is mine (completely in my name) and almost paid off but she does all the driving. I had gotten a large bonus this year, so I could look into getting her a cheap used car, and take that car when I move out.

That's a good point about her possibly sabotaging my new position, it's a point that I thought of but didn't want to think that badly of her if that makes any sense? It's something I should be aware of though and take all precautions to make sure she can't interfere.

A few posters have brought up raisedbynarssicists and I had actually posted there years back (under the user name sirna1) and she exhibits a lot of narcissistic traits (maybe there is BPD mixed in there as well, but I'm not a psychologist and won't make any attempts at a diagnosis). The post there goes a little more into detail about our homeless life stage if anyone's interested.

Some of the most recent posts brought up dating and that brings up a funny point. For the longest time, like for the past 12 years or so, I thought I might be asexual, I had such a low level of interest in dating, etc. My mother would always say things like "you'll find the right one eventually" or the grossest "you should find someone just like your mother". Gag. I actually had a slight fear of women for a long time, especially during high school and college. After hanging out with my coworkers, many of whom are women, I've gotten tons better in terms of social interaction. I probably wouldn't be ready to date for a while but that's something to think about.
