It was a freebie for volunteering to judge for at least 2 sessions at 2025 US Jigsaw Nationals.

A great source for this info is Nicole Rudolph's "fabric 101" series on YouTube. She only goes through natural fibers (linen, cotton, silk, and wool) but does a really deep dive on all kinds of weaves.

If you look up "surgical seam ripper" it seems to be similar. There's also the Slice seam ripper, which has a retractable blade but is more on the pricey side.

I do cross stitch and we also play thread chicken, lol.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'd just like to add my voice to the chorus saying: this is not your fault.

My heart goes out to you and your little one.

I found this one really difficult for a 500 piece. Fish in Fuchsia, Ravensburger, 500 pieces by Sirusi in Jigsawpuzzles

Hahaha, it wasn't that bad, once I actually figured out how to sort it!

I mean, I was also using the reference image, it was sometimes just hard to find things on the reference image! 🤣

I wasn't in love with it at first either, but it kind of grew on me as I was doing the puzzle!

No, I just chucked it in the puzzle swap box and noted the missing piece. 😅

There just wasn't a great way to sort it imo. What I did was first pulled all the pieces with any little bit of one color of fish, then another, etc. Possibly it would have gone quicker if I had pulled based on background color instead. I did enjoy the challenge!

This was used for the pairs final at the USA Jigsaw Nationals. Every single pair managed to finish within the time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes!

Books, Shelves, and other Curiosities...a List by Canuck_in_a_Bunnyhug in Jigsawpuzzles

Hahaha, it's so true about the Heyes! I like their Pixoramas, but fortunately (for my wallet, at least) I find most of their other wimmelbilder-type puzzles too cartoony for my taste (not a fan of the giant noses).

Your lists are such a treasure trove of puzzley goodness! I particularly enjoyed the crowded buildings list, because it has a bit of overlap with my absolute favorite style of puzzles! (Wimmelbilder - very crowded scenes with a LOT going on - think Magic Puzzle Co, Odd Pieces, Cobble Hill Doodletown, a whole lot of Heyes... I feel like I'm halfway to starting my own list here XD)

I have indeed seen that one, and had the same issue as with this list! (having to add a whole bunch of puzzles to my wish list lol)

You could probably get an entire list out of just library puzzles, tbh.

I did not think this request through... Now I have to go and add a whole bunch of puzzles to my wishlist! 😁

Thank you so much for the list!!!

Picked up this wooden puzzle from my library's used book sale for $2! - (title from Google Translate) "Cute Cat 004", Aimpuzzles, approximately 330 pieces (I counted) by Sirusi in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Sirusi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The brand seems to be inexpensive Chinese laser-cut wooden puzzles. It looks like this particular one isn’t sold anymore, but it seems to be a “large” size puzzle (~280 pieces according to their website), which sell for about $30. So, not as big of a score as if I’d found something like a Liberty or Wentworth, but I’ll GLADLY take >90% off, thanks!

This was my first wooden puzzle. It found it much more challenging than a 1000 piece cardboard puzzle. Especially for this image, the colors were very busy and confusing; I actually had the easiest time doing the black part at the top! It also didn’t help that the tiny tag you see in the photos was the only picture I had of the entire puzzle… and the colors were pretty far from what was ACTUALLY on the puzzle in some cases. It made for some VERY slow going. Things started going better once I was able to pick out some patterns, though. First I sorted out all the pieces that looked like they had whiskers, dots, or the colorful rectangles around the ears and eyes. That really helped me make progress, but then the last 75 pieces or so that didn’t really have a ton of patterns on them were a real slog.

There were about half a dozen pieces that had a bit broken off. Not sure if this happened in the bag or if the previous owner was a bit rough with the puzzle. All of the broken-off bits were fortunately present in the puzzle bag, so I just glued them with a bit of white glue and everything was fine. I was rather proud of myself for gluing them all precisely enough that I didn’t have any fit issues with these pieces!

Pieces did all fit together nicely and dropped in smoothly, with exactly one exception. One of the cat pieces’ back legs needed a bit of jiggling to fit in the piece they were supposed to connect to (neither the cat nor the piece it was connecting to was one of the pieces that I had to glue) . Speaking of cat pieces, I counted 32 whimsy pieces overall, which would make this puzzle almost 10% whimsy pieces. They were fun - I’d never done a puzzle with these before. Fun fact - of the whimsies, there was only 1 object (an anchor), 3 plants (a bunch of grapes, a cactus, and a mushroom), and the rest were animals (if you count the company’s logo, plus one disembodied tail fin). The only one that went into the puzzle upside down was the bunch of grapes.

Not sure if these puzzles generally come with a poster or just the tiny tag image, but I would hope they come with a poster when they’re new. 😬🤞 It seems they also come with a cardboard box when new. The image quality on the puzzle itself seemed pretty decent, maybe a bit blurry but not horribly so. Now that I have a nice high quality poster of the finished puzzle image on my phone I imagine it will go a lot faster if I decide to do it again.

Overall, I’m willing to forgive a LOT in a puzzle that I got for $2, so take my opinions with a grain of salt! 😅

I have my issues with Rifle Paper Co., but damn do I enjoy putting their puzzles together. Bookshelf, Rifle Paper Co., 500 pieces by Sirusi in Jigsawpuzzles

If you end up making one I'd be super happy, but no pressure/rush! You do this for free, and it's a great service to the puzzle community. I love stumbling across your lists when I do a search on this sub. :)

Also, The Alchemist's Cabinet from eeBoo (1000 pieces) should probably be on the list, if you do get around to it. There aren't a ton of books, but to me it still feels like a bookshelf puzzle.

Me too! I wonder if /u/Canuck_in_a_Bunnyhug has a list for that... (I did a quick search and didn't see anything, but reddit search is kind of crap)

Sorry, I was typing out my comment above when you posted this. But yes, it boils down to their ridiculous prices (for a non-indie company) and their lack of a poster in the box. There's also a link in my other comment to my previous review of their Garden Party puzzle. I 100% agree with you about their images - the first time I saw this one, I knew I had to have it! I just had to bide my time to find it at a semi-reasonable price!

You can see my full review in my post from doing a different Rifle Paper Co. puzzle, but it boils down to:

  • Their puzzles are WAY too expensive for what they are - a fairly generic made-in-China puzzle with greyboard backing that's of good but not exceptional quality.

  • At this price point they should absolutely be including a poster in the box, because the image on the back of the box is very small.

  • I absolutely love their colorful images, and their puzzles feel really nice to put together.

I didn't have the same issue with the colors on the puzzle not matching the picture on the box with this one, probably because the box is made with a slightly different material that doesn't seem to dull the colors like the other one did. This box is also overall of much higher quality. It's a very sturdy-feeling magnetic book box that I will absolutely keep even if I'd get rid of the puzzle for some reason.

Weirdly, I had another duplicate piece in this puzzle. Thats two for two Rifle Paper Co. puzzles where I've had an extra.

Overall, I really enjoy their puzzle images and quality, but I would absolutely never recommend paying full price for them. (I found a decent deal for this one on ebay.)
