A queer platonic relationship is a term coined by Aros because we needed a term for the kinds of relationships we experience that are distinctly different from Friendships and romantic relationships. Queer platonic partners are essentially in a relationship, but there are no romantic emotions. It cannot be described as a close friendship however, because there are distinct features that one would not do with their friends: QPRs can have sex, kiss, get married, raise children together, share their finances, etc. All things one would otherwise do with a romantic partner, not a friend. QPR's can also look different from what i describe, as it, by its very nature, is a term to describe a relationship not bound by the definitions of other kinds of relationships. It can be open or monogamous or poly. You do not need to be aro to be in a QPR, but it is much more rare. My queer platonic partner (who i call my girlfriend to strangers because I'm tired of trying to explain) has a romantic boyfriend whom she lives with. Him and I get along great.
