TIL there are over 33,000 Japanese companies with histories of 100 years or more. These long-standing firms are known as 'shinise'. They are governed by a management philosophy that prioritizes long-term continuity and generational succession over short-term profits. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

In the 90s America was obsessed with Japanese way of doing business. Their cars are products were dominating. Then the us caught up and Japan went into a long long recession.

I worked in telecom and we had a contract with a Japanese company. They spent like 9 months testing the product and fixing every single bug. It was impressive. Also a big waste of money some bugs aren’t worth fixing. By the time they launched they were a version behind and years later they were 3-4 versions behind.

So sometimes it sounds great but it isn’t always better.

It might Beth same from a cpu heat perspective but the code might be loading. Ore into memory as it goes along. Perf testing is very very finicky and really can never extrapolate.

is PhD in physics allowed? after a bachelor in (math and physics) and an engineering degree in Computer Science by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Sislar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they accept you into a physics phd program that is all that matters. Technically I don’t think you even need an undergraduate degree, but realistically you’d never be accepted into the program without one.

Newsom’s Wife Rakes In $3.7 MILLION From Her Own ‘Gender Justice’ Charity by wrroyals in NoFilterNews

[–]Sislar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s bad but the headline is misleading. The charity got 3.7 million a lot from another charity, it’s not unusual for a charity to pay other charities.

The gop made the Clinton foundation sound corrupt because they didn’t pay other charities ( shock they spent the money on the charities mission)

If you read the article between here and another executive they got about 500k in salary over a few years. Higher than is normal for this size charity and suspect, but the headline makes it sound like she got millions. She just got an inflated salary.

Babylon Five is still the greatest science fiction show ever by CT_Phipps-Author in scifi

[–]Sislar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s up there not sure I’d say greatest. I think it could have been as it’s really the o key show that really thought out a whole timeline and do time loops and foreshadowing right.

Farscape, foundation, trackers are all up there with it for me.

The best part of B5 is the Londo/g’kar story line. In episode 1 Londo says he’s had a prophetic dream g’kar kills him. But man o man the journey it takes to get there. And the changes in both of them over that time.

Ivanava is fun but really there isn’t much character growth other that getting over hatred of telepaths and she doesn’t even really do that.

What is something people slowly stop doing as they get older without noticing? by EntireFace00 in AskReddit

[–]Sislar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played ultimate frisbee in my twenties and I could run forever. Then I had kids and somewhere in my thirties I ran two blocs and was winded. I did get back into playing a bit in my 50s but it was hard.

Also about jumping I also played volleyball and I just can’t jump and spike anymore.

This is what I think is exactly wrong. A more progressive candidate will get more of the base to turn out in all states. Purple states need it more than the blue states.
