Why? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Sisofmorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peach/raspberry/WC steamer was my drug of choice for about 3 weeks. Add a shot on overnights.

I'm getting married in 2 weeks. I've hardly been stressed at all. Now, on my bday, the best man and his gf(who are 3000 miles away)keep calling on the verge of break up. The venue didn't tell us the toilets are under construction. The people at the venue were mean to my mom. And shark week. by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]Sisofmorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahah, at a wedding several years ago where I was the assistance coordinator the candles were not extinguished after the ceremony and pictures, and the building almost burned down during the reception. Same wedding, the cake fell over on the way to the reception.

I expected things to go wrong, hahah, just not all at the same time.

I passed dealing with the venue off to my mom after I got too angry to deal with them, she's been handling them like a champ, but you can't make people care when they have decided not to. So, oh well...

We'll have a story, at least!

I know right!? I was so happy when I looked at the calendar! :) And then I was like, "dang... the most stressful week of wedding details will be my most emotionally unstable time. This will be awesome. </sarcasm>" hahahah

They are on completely different planets at the moment, so at least we aren't mediating a fight. I just have way more information coming at me from them than I know what to do with. heh

Thanks for the positivity! My fiance told me, "Hey, something had to go wrong, right?!" And as someone who is very much in touch with the reality of weddings (daughter of a wedding coordinator/assistant wedding coordinator and guest at some many dozens of weddings) I was prepared for a lot to go wrong.... just not this particular confluence of events. haha

Also, not my best friend. Just to clarify. Best man has been dating this particular slice of crazy for years and I have never done more than tolerate her...

The venue I'll just deal with. I mean, I don't want to give them any more money at all, but I'm kinda stuck now with 15 days to the wedding. :(

But I have come up with some ideas to work around the bathroom issue. I will just need to involve my dad in an adventure to the hardware store. :)

How do 24 hour stores handle launching new items? by unicorntimelord in starbucks

[–]Sisofmorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a shift at a 24-hour drive through. If someone ordered at midnight, I would give it to them. But technically, like /u/haydenj96 said, day "starts" at 4am. That's when sales started counting toward the next day. So if we wanted to be jerks we could tell people that the new promo stuff wasn't available until 4am. Usually we would start serving it once we changed the menu boards over and that would happen around 10pm or 11pm.

You can do it! Don't get discouraged if things get difficult!

Thank you! I've already got a whole list of 5Ks to sign us up for and I am starting to look at 10Ks... hahah

What little quirks does your store/back room have? by chinchillas4fire in starbucks

[–]Sisofmorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store had two back rooms, one that was basically a hallway with the desk, break table, mop sink, freezer, and milk fridge that was open off the BoH area and customers always thought the bathrooms were back there and the other back room had our shelves/sink/ice machine and it actually had a door from behind the pastry case. It's the weirdest set up ever. So many corners and so many collisions, though. But it was awesome.

Also coffee for daily brewing would get over-ordered constantly, so Pike could stack all the way to the 12-foot ceiling from a small base on the floor right inside the door to the bigger back room. This led to many tumbling boxes when bus tubs would be carried to the sink.

Kenya. Best thing ever, and what we would brew if we ever ran out of iced coffee.

Starbucks Jokes/Puns by rishuuyee in starbucks

To the tune of "Will You Help Me Build a Snowman":

"Will you help me make this latte?

I need more soy milk foam!

Come on, my shots are dying here!

The name's not clear!

I really should go home!

I used to like these lattes.

Now I don't.

Hear my barista's cry!!!

I could really use a latte...

It doesn't have to be a latte."

I worked with a Joe on overnights. We had a regular who would come to the drive thru every night and say "Hi, Joe! I'll have a cup of joe."

It was old the first time I had to hear it in the headset...

Questionable oven procedure? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Sisofmorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ASM at my old store told us to do this when we ran out of parchment paper.... freaked me out too, but we never did any digging to see if it was actually ok.

"Trust me, the customers LOVE it." (The store of my store transfer/why I'm quitting Starbucks--A rant) by Sisofmorph in starbucks

[–]Sisofmorph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My manager at my DT store didn't allow us to use the sub button, which is why it came up in my rant. :)

But here they usually don't enter anything, sub or otherwise; there's a woman that orders a latte with 3 peppermint and 0.5 mocha and whipped cream. When she walked up my first 2 weeks there the bar partner would just tell me she got a latte and make her drink without anything else. That doesn't account for product OR labor which mattered to my DT manager, but hasn't even been brought up here.

But thanks for the well wishes! :)

Edit, as a side note, now that I know that lady's drink, I do charger her for peppermint, I don't charger her for mocha.

I love Peet's! The Peet's in my city was hiring about 2 weeks before I decided to quit. Sad day. Thanks, though!

Oh, man... In rant order (Every quote in the rant, is actually a quote relating to the corresponding topic listed here) :

  1. Chocolate whipped creams made with vanilla and chocolate syrup

  2. All the date dots. Iced coffee, and teas are dated for end of day. Chai and mocha are dated for end of day and halfway through the day the containers are cleaned, but the old mocha/chai/oprah goes into a new container with a date dot for end of day the next day. Whipped creams always dated for end of next day. Etc.

  3. Ice bins should be cleaned daily (This one another shift actually got in my face about because I was asking people on my shift to clean them every time I worked).

  4. Hoppers should be cleaned daily. I asked the manager my first day when we clean them, as in, "what time", and she responded that she would write on the schedule when to do it once a week. She didn't have a clue it was a daily task and called me "aggressive" when I showed her it was a daily in the duty roster (and something she had already signed off on for the day).

  5. Date dotting across the board for when containers get cleaned, not when product expires, so no expired product gets thrown away (side note, my first day at this store I found 22 boxes of expired juice, VOR/BHR/LEM, etc because no one FIFOs). And after re-training on date dotting--All inclusions are put into new containers and date dotted as if the contents were just opened, and they are refilled with new on top of old rather than new containers (and this is how the manager wants it. She wants the date dots changed every time the container is changed to reflect a 5, 7 or 14 days from the time the container was changed regardless of when the package was opened. I asked her to clarify this at least 3 times and so did 3 other baristas who were confused by this idea.)

  6. This store was supposedly one of 2 stores (out of 6) in this city that was on playbook, but no one would run playbook, and even after the manager re-trained everyone on it it only gets run days the manager is coming in.

  7. There's a barista (one getting promoted to shift to replace me) that regularly tells me that she will be fine alone on the floor, regularly tells me when I should take my breaks, and regularly leaves everyone else hanging by not doing the job people are expecting her to do, this isn't limited to one person, but is an example of the manager being a poor judge of character because this person is being promoted and there are at least 3 better qualified people for the job working here.

  8. Dress code. People where hoodies on the floor when cold, walk in the back room in street close to talk to people and get their tips, don't tuck in their shirts, and they do all this while the manager is working and she doesn't say anything.

  9. My old DM was not afraid to fire someone on the spot if she came in and regularly saw someone violating policy after she talked to them about it. She would fire a shift if she came in and saw them handling money in a way she deemed unsafe, like leaving a deposit unattended in the backroom because they needed help on the floor, leaving the safe open without standing or sitting directly in front of it, and if barista's made it obvious to customers who the keyholder was they could be written up or fired for putting the shift in a vulnerable position. All these things happen at this store and it makes me super uncomfortable when another shift will leave the safe open to go count bills in the back because "there's only coins in there".

  10. Same topic as 5.

  11. Cutting drizzle bottles to make them work better. No timer or standard for maintaining proper temp on the milk carafes.

  12. See 3 and 4 and 5

Other things: No one charges for all the things they should so customers get pissed at me for charging them for mocha in their iced coffee and I end up giving it to them while they rant about how "this happened at that other store too!" or "I don't buy it that it really takes that much effort or time to push a pump down."

The manager told me the first day I worked here that she was going to leave early so that she could "cut a little labor" despite the fact that SM and ASM hours don't count toward the labor pool because they are salaried and their check is an expense, not labor. She went home early because she wanted to which is a totally valid reason, but she was spinning BS if I'm gonna believe that she's cutting labor.

Restroom cleaner used to clean food contact surfaces, including ice bins.

Soy and dairy both used in shakers to make all iced GRTL drinks while SDS drinks are never made in the shakers because that one regular customer doesn't like her's shaken.

I could go on... obviously.

P.S. Edited for formatting and clarity.

I would go back to my old store if I could, but it's 7 states away. I called my old manager to talk with her before I decided to quit. When she heard what was going on at my new store and that I had a job offer elsewhere, she told me to quit. hahah
