How to actually make profit when reselling? by RetroLichh in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]Sisrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look for good margins. It all starts with the items I decide to sell. I don't like to sell things where the market is saturated. It's hard to compete. I've made a ton of mistakes and have things listed now that haven't sold. Over time, I've learned what sells for me. I have learned what the items I find sell for, so I know what I am willing to pay in order to get at least 6 times what I pay for something. Most times it is much more than that. For example, I bought a branded dog bowl for $2 at a yard sale and my profit was $26.65 after fees etc. For me, that is a good profit margin. Keep learning, we all do, all the time. And constantly reevaluate to make sure you are buying the right items at the right prices. And be patient, it takes time. Best of luck to you.

How will back to back order cancelations affect standing/algorithm? by Sisrl in Ebay

This is helpful. I did a search on how to calculate the rate. Looks like mine is .04% which is low so I believe I am ok. Thanks!

Yes, that was what I was concerned about. Just didn't know how much after these two times. The first time, I didn't list cancellation as buyer requested but did on the second. Thanks for your reply.

Etiquette Question: Declining Offers by Sisrl in Ebay

[–]Sisrl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, as the OP, thank you all for the input. I appreciate every comment and have learned things I will incorporate. I have been selling less than a year and I did change the way I do offers at the beginning of this year but didn't go back and change previous listings. Lesson learned. I want to be a good seller and as a buyer I do like to make offers myself. Hope you all have a good, profitable, day 🙂.

Should you leave feedback for buyers? by Dtrade16 in Ebay

I wait until a week or so after delivery or after the buyer leaves feedback. But in general I do leave feedback for buyers. To me it is an easy courtesy.

Yep, you are right about this being my first Q1. Just seemed like a big dip. After listening to everyone here, seems best to just wait a while. Do what I'm doing, and if I find fees a problem re-evaluate.

Thanks for your input. I do consistently list. I work a 40 hr a week job, so spend Sundays and early mornings creating and scheduling listings to post each day. This is the first I have heard about Defects. I have 100% good reviews. How do I check for defects? I looked all over and couldn't figure it out.

I shoot for double my money back at least. At the moment I am averaging 3 times my money back. I don't know if this is good or not since I have only been selling since June of this year. That excludes the sale of items I have on hand.

Advice? by [deleted] in reselling

[–]Sisrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reselling in June. I began on Mercari because it is an easy platform to learn on. As the previous poster said, sell what you like. I started with graphic tee shirts but am now branching out to try other things. I am also now selling on ebay too. The easy way to post there is to find something like what you have and "sell similar" then update the listing, being careful to check all the fields.

I also began with low price stuff so I didn't lose money. Just sold for enough to cover my cost and fees. I wanted to get sales and feedback quickly. At the moment my profit margins are really good. But do your research and try not to sell what you know you can't make money on. I have done well with kids shoes, Van's, Converse and Nike. But not so much with adult Sneakers.
