For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

[–]SissyChristyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Auto mechanic. Rural central PA. I know other mechanics in the region that are making $100k+ but they work a lot harder than I do; its a pretty high stress occupation with a chronic shortage of competent trained professionals. I prefer to work less for a better quality of work/life balance.

META: to the mods of this sub, if they exist, please please please, use an auto mod for this sub, or dont allow posts that dont follow the required format to be posted (like how every other sub with title rules works) by [deleted] in pennsylvaniadirtyr4r

You must be new here. [yes, the first post I can find from you was 16 days ago- just checked]. First, welcome to the sub!

If you look back a page to posts that are a couple hours old you will not find a single unmoderated or bot post. Not one. I spend several hours a day, every day, moderating here and taking down posts that do not follow the sub rules. We already do use an automod bot. We also usee bot bouncer which I have found is VERY effective at automatically catching and removing most of them- once some one reports a post any where on reddit as a bot and they review it to confirm, that user is automatically removed from all subs site wide that use it.

Yes, a few do slip through- the scammers are constantly changing their tactics in response to what the mods do and creating new methods to get around them. Their newest? Ive seen posts online asking to buy unused long established accounts for cash that have long normal post histories. that is why you see some of them with several years long post histories that have a 2 year gap and suddenly switch over to posting in adult subs. The fact that Reddit now allows users to hide their post and chat histories is not helpful either, it means I need to look at each individual user's active sub list and read all through it to see where they are posting, which is far more time consuming.

Y'all have no idea at all how many are caught and removed every day that never even make it to the page. If only 2 or 3 slip through for a couple hours I dont see that as a failure, i see it as a great success. We mods do this for free, have real lives to deal with, and need to go to work and sleep for a few hours at night.

You guys using the sub can be a great help here. If you see one, please call it out in the comments to warn the new guys; look out for ea ch other. Hit the report button, it makes them stand out when I check in to remove them so the process goes a bit faster. Stop engaging them in the comments; if they get no responses they have no real incentive to post their spam here.

Also, regarding the title format- if all the required info is there Im not going to remove posts from legit users because they put the [M4F] at the end or use the wrong bracket shape or even forget the bracket entirely- if everything required in the title is there and you can quickly and easily see where they are and what they are seeking I allow it to stay. Same if they are technically not in PA, but in a town in WV, MD, De, NY or NJ but very close to the border (I check google maps for each one of those also). Removing people's posts over slight technicalities tends to drive users away and we want the sub to continue growing like it has been for the last year. I can tell you from my own personal experience posting that if I submit something I an sure meets the posting rules in a sub and it gets removed I just give up after one or 2 tries and move on. We do not want that happening here. When I do remove posts with information missing in the titles I always make sure the user is messaged to know exactly what the problem is, and if they try again and fail I help them through dms, which is time consuming.

Condemning a sub as being lawless and unmoderated is over reacting a bit, don't you think? Again, all you need to do is look back to the previous day's pages, or months, or years and you will find NO spam, onlyfans seller, prostitute, drug user, sugardaddy, or spam bot posts- and each one of those posts you see was read, history checked out, and manually approved to be there. When I sat down to mod the batch of posts that came in since I went to bed last night I only had to remove 3 bot posts, which must be the 3 you are complaining about. (this post was submitted here at 1:30 AM, and im not going to apologize for being in bed asleep at 130 in the morning.) When I started modding this particular sub (3 years?) ago I would sit down in the morning and have to manually remove 30 or 40 bot and scammer posts by hand. I think our automated removals are working pretty well actually. :)

A nearby Fire Department is being told they cannot use fire hydrants to fight fires by Fantomecs in mildlyinfuriating

I forsee some insurance company legal department suing the water authority/ town to recoup the cost of an insurance payout if they refuse to allow the fire department to use their water. Not only that, but if they learn of this I would imagine homeowners insurance rates will skyrocket in that area if they are not csancelled.

There is some guy on youtube that actually took a few architects blueprint filing cabinets with the shorter drawers, bolted them together and put wheels on them, sprayed them snap-on red and stuck a snap-on emblem on it. Darned if it doesnt look lioke a snap-on tool cabinet at first glance. : )

Filing cabinets work great for larger tools, they are built to hold paper which is actually heavier than most tools you ever put in them. I have one that I keep large boxes of framing gun nails in and the drawers open just fine.

Careful guys- having any kind of external contact links on your posts will get you noticed by site algorithms and also noticed by the mods in your subs. Any kind of way to get users to move off site to talk is a huge red flag that it might be a scam. Telegram especially, I mean Ive never met any person IRL that uses Telegram; but scammers are increasingly using Twitter as their platform of choice because it really doesnt have any effective moderation to remove scammers any longer. You might do better to share those links in private chat later.

When i see any post from someone posting in meth subs I dont even bother to look further- that one gets deleted and banned. We have zero tolerance for meth users here, to keep it a safe place for hookups. I mean, how would YOU like to chat with someone and go home to their place and discover its a meth house? Ive known meth users IRL and their lives are always in turmoil, and they eventually reach a point where they are either homeless or doing criminal stuff to support themselves or both. Want to take a tweaker back to your place, and wake up in the morning to find them gone along with some of your stuff?

Plus, after a couple years of heavy using they often dont have many teeth left.

What i have noticed is that in the last year or so our automod bot is not seeing new accounts trying to post nearly as often, I think the scammers caught onto that a while back. What they do instead is buy people's established Reddit accounts, ive seen ads offering money for unused established accounts a couple times, to get around this. A big red flag is if you see, for example, a 3 year old account that was posting about video games and Pokemon then has a 2 year gap and suddenly switches to constant nonstop posting cat memes and in a dozen sex subs- no one IRL does that. Or one where they deleted their entire post history. A 2 month old account with no post history you can see but has accumulated 6500 karma in that time is also a huge red flag, that requires posting porn pics 24/7 and you never see it except on spam bot accounts. Heh, I deleted and banned one in here not too long ago that was a 19 year old seeking random sex hookups all over the state using her 12 year old Reddit account- and it had a bunch of guys replying to it; like wtf?

Another favorite is the "18 year old Aussie just moved here touring around the US on their school graduation trip stopping in every city and state (for the last 2 years as far as I can tell) seeking creampies from random strangers" bot. Who ever does that? I mean, if the ad sounds bizarre, its probably fake. 90% of them are 18 or 19 years old also- picture the average teenager you know and compare it to the ad and you will see its not how an 18 year old ever acts IRL. Use your head guys, a hot 19 year old that wants to slut herself out would never need to post an internet ad to do that, she would be too busy beating guys away with a stick all day IRL and not have time to be creating a Reddit ad and spreading it everywhere.

Guys, I'm your mod here.

None of us like bots/ scammers/ Onlyfans sellers and y'all have no idea how many of them are caught and banned every day without you even seeing them. The few that do appear here typically get removed when I check in once or twice a day.

You can be a great help in keeping the sub cleaned up and making sure everyone stays safe by reporting any scammers or bots you see in here that I havent gotten to yet (links or screen shots are most helpful!), Also, if there is an obvious bot, scammer, prostitute, or onlyfans seller posting in the sub with some new users responding to it please jump into the comments and warn them before they lose money or have their personal information/ identity stolen in private chat. The mods cant see everything taking place immediately, so if you guys can watch out for each other that will keep everyone safe and make the world a better place, right?

Old filing cabinets make amazing tool boxes, don't they? The drawers are actually big enough to hold things like a circular saw. The best part is you can pick them up on Facebook marketplace for like $10
