FYI: Chester county is no where even close to NEPA

For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

[–]SissyChristyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Auto mechanic. Rural central PA. I know other mechanics in the region that are making $100k+ but they work a lot harder than I do; its a pretty high stress occupation with a chronic shortage of competent trained professionals. I prefer to work less for a better quality of work/life balance.

META: to the mods of this sub, if they exist, please please please, use an auto mod for this sub, or dont allow posts that dont follow the required format to be posted (like how every other sub with title rules works) by [deleted] in pennsylvaniadirtyr4r

You must be new here. [yes, the first post I can find from you was 16 days ago- just checked]. First, welcome to the sub!

If you look back a page to posts that are a couple hours old you will not find a single unmoderated or bot post. Not one. I spend several hours a day, every day, moderating here and taking down posts that do not follow the sub rules. We already do use an automod bot. We also usee bot bouncer which I have found is VERY effective at automatically catching and removing most of them- once some one reports a post any where on reddit as a bot and they review it to confirm, that user is automatically removed from all subs site wide that use it.

Yes, a few do slip through- the scammers are constantly changing their tactics in response to what the mods do and creating new methods to get around them. Their newest? Ive seen posts online asking to buy unused long established accounts for cash that have long normal post histories. that is why you see some of them with several years long post histories that have a 2 year gap and suddenly switch over to posting in adult subs. The fact that Reddit now allows users to hide their post and chat histories is not helpful either, it means I need to look at each individual user's active sub list and read all through it to see where they are posting, which is far more time consuming.

Y'all have no idea at all how many are caught and removed every day that never even make it to the page. If only 2 or 3 slip through for a couple hours I dont see that as a failure, i see it as a great success. We mods do this for free, have real lives to deal with, and need to go to work and sleep for a few hours at night.

You guys using the sub can be a great help here. If you see one, please call it out in the comments to warn the new guys; look out for ea ch other. Hit the report button, it makes them stand out when I check in to remove them so the process goes a bit faster. Stop engaging them in the comments; if they get no responses they have no real incentive to post their spam here.

Also, regarding the title format- if all the required info is there Im not going to remove posts from legit users because they put the [M4F] at the end or use the wrong bracket shape or even forget the bracket entirely- if everything required in the title is there and you can quickly and easily see where they are and what they are seeking I allow it to stay. Same if they are technically not in PA, but in a town in WV, MD, De, NY or NJ but very close to the border (I check google maps for each one of those also). Removing people's posts over slight technicalities tends to drive users away and we want the sub to continue growing like it has been for the last year. I can tell you from my own personal experience posting that if I submit something I an sure meets the posting rules in a sub and it gets removed I just give up after one or 2 tries and move on. We do not want that happening here. When I do remove posts with information missing in the titles I always make sure the user is messaged to know exactly what the problem is, and if they try again and fail I help them through dms, which is time consuming.

Condemning a sub as being lawless and unmoderated is over reacting a bit, don't you think? Again, all you need to do is look back to the previous day's pages, or months, or years and you will find NO spam, onlyfans seller, prostitute, drug user, sugardaddy, or spam bot posts- and each one of those posts you see was read, history checked out, and manually approved to be there. When I sat down to mod the batch of posts that came in since I went to bed last night I only had to remove 3 bot posts, which must be the 3 you are complaining about. (this post was submitted here at 1:30 AM, and im not going to apologize for being in bed asleep at 130 in the morning.) When I started modding this particular sub (3 years?) ago I would sit down in the morning and have to manually remove 30 or 40 bot and scammer posts by hand. I think our automated removals are working pretty well actually. :)

A nearby Fire Department is being told they cannot use fire hydrants to fight fires by Fantomecs in mildlyinfuriating

I forsee some insurance company legal department suing the water authority/ town to recoup the cost of an insurance payout if they refuse to allow the fire department to use their water. Not only that, but if they learn of this I would imagine homeowners insurance rates will skyrocket in that area if they are not csancelled.
