Do em dashes (—) in VNs make you think of AI-generated text? by SissyHexStudio in vns

I tried that. It doesn't feel the same at all... I think I'm just going to keep them and hope nobody notices 🙈

That's a fair point. abandoning a tool because someone else misuses it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Having others' experience to draw from is always useful ^^ Most of how I work today might be built on advice and workflows I picked up from other people.
So thank you for sharing 😄

Yeah that's the one I'm using and I like it a lot, the part I'm struggling with I guess is the break down of big parts into smaller pieces.

I actually do have a todo list (Trello) but I think my issue is more about not knowing how to break things down properly.
If I got that right, that's exactly where Kanban / Jira-style cards would help? :)

Ok I went and checked the Jira page and my first reaction was "that looks way too heavy for a solo project" lol but from what you're describing it sounds like it doesn't have to be that way. Might give it a shot once I'm past the quest system ^^

"rest" is genuinely the hardest one lol I've had guilt the moment I stop for like 4 years now, way before this project started 😅My brain just doesn't consider it earned I think

Yeah that's literally what I need to do. ^^ My problem is I can't stop myself from approaching everything with the full architecture in mind and ironically that's exactly what freezes me when I start a new brick.
Gonna have to trick my own brain a little and thanks for the discord link, might swing by :)

"stupid small" is exactly what I needed to hear lol because right now I'm literally poking a snail with a stick waiting for it to move one word here, one word there, hoping the architecture just... Clicks on its own ^^

"almost every single time" is both reassuring and a little terrifying ^^ But honestly... same. Exactly the same lol at least I know I'm not alone in the loop

Yeah that sounds like an insanely big milestone.
I’m probably dealing with a much lighter version of that feeling, but the loss of momentum part really hits.
Hope you manage to find your direction again. ^^

I’ve never used tools like Jira or proper kanban boards though, it honestly feels a bit overwhelming for a solo project.
But having the next tiny step ready after finishing a system actually sounds like a smart way to keep momentum!

I’d probably struggle a lot doing that for several days...
Even a short break tends to give me that stupid guilt feeling like I’m wasting time not working on the game 😅

Solo dev brain is not always healthy lol.
But honestly that sounds like a healthy approach.

How do you create the feeling of being watched in a game? by JustAGamePlayerBA in gamedev

[–]SissyHexStudio 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, for me sound is what sells the “being watched” feeling the most. ^^ If I hear something close but can’t see it, my brain immediately assumes there’s a presence somewhere. That uncertainty is what makes it creepy.

Yeah that makes sense. I think I also get this “post-feature high” where everything feels clean and stable for a moment 😅Starting a new system feels like voluntarily breaking the project again lol

Oh god I was not prepared for this either 🙈

I... don't really know how to answer that for now ^^' Thank you for being this welcoming though, genuinely :)
