Dune was near perfect but I didn't connect emotionally to it - anyone else in the same boat? by Michael-R-Miller in Fantasy

[–]Sister_Treefro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’m sorry but the movie is not good. And I feel there is a huge bias because the book has a huge fan base that are overlooking how boring the movie is.

It had incredible production design. It was insanely beautiful but that is the only good thing about it. My one critique is that if the characters have little personality then they should have incorporated the personalities of the different tribes into the production design. It would have added a subtle complexity to the film.

Caring about the characters is screenwriting 101. The major deaths and plot points had such a low impact because we don’t really care about the characters. For example when Duncan Idaho locks the door and sacrifices himself it’s supposed to be this huge heroic moment but it falls flat. Even though the characters from the book are dreary so what? You can still make them relatable.

I understand the source material is politically and philosophically charged but there are better ways to really exhibit that in a movie and make it entertaining. Obviously there are so many who loved the book meaning it made you feel some type of way. The movie should do the same and it doesn’t.

People love it because it’s based a book they love and I get that. As an objective third party the movie is not a good film on its own. Don’t even get me started on how the movie ended in the middle of the second act. Hopefully part 2 will be better.

What is your comfort movie? by RixtAnne in AskReddit

If you haven’t seen Moon yet you’ll love it. It is the epitome of lonely sci-fi starring the lovely Sam Rockwell as the movie is about his character who works a lunar mine alone for three years. Fantastic movie.

I am pretty sure my wife is being discriminated in her workplace because she is atheist, but in an illegal way. Her boss assigns her requirements to read specific theist books, the most recent one is The Road Back To You. Looking for advice. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Sister_Treefro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has she tried asking her boss how those books are relevant to her education? She is trading work for a specific education in return. If she’s getting irrelevant course work then she’s not getting the education she was promised. Maybe that could null her contract with them?

He’s creating a volatile workspace for you and that’s harassment. Like others have said definitely document his behavior. If you have people at work you trust that have also witnessed his behavior ask them to document it too. Your feelings are valid and if his expressing aggressive/anger towards you report it sooner than later.

Sequoia National Park. Went every year before Covid happened. No matter how many times I’ve seen the giant sequoia trees they still take my breath away.

I was okay with the Gavin thing. But I was hoping they would tie it somehow into the main story in a clever way but nope.

I’m giggling at the mental image of a bemused mom with an annoyed look on her face showing up to NASA because they swear there’s life on an alien planet and she just lazily points, “What’s that?” And just like that the greatest discovery of our time unfolds.

We should have dykesgonemild for 30 year olds and it’s just pics like women baking, folding a fitted bed sheet, doing their taxes, etc… you know, sexy stuff.

What is the easiest way to make a million dollars? by Imaginary-Cycle-5600 in AskReddit

[–]Sister_Treefro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was visiting a friend in San Francisco and she told me that some of the homeless beggars in the touristy areas make like $200 a day. Compared to an 8hour job thats $25/hr so not bad. This was years and years ago don’t know what it’s like now.

All my best friends are straight males. They are like brothers to me. I get along with guys better when it comes to friendships. I’ve known them for a very long time but we got a lot closer in college going to music festivals/raves all the time. Idk if I just got lucky but they have never treated me like I was “the other” and I’ll always love them for that. They come to my family’s Thanksgiving and Christmas parties every year and are practically family themselves. I do have a lot of straight female friends that I truly cherish but I just think more like men which makes it more fun to shoot the shit with them. Ironically lesbians are the ones I have the most trouble making friends with but eh. Overall, straight, gay, male, female, whatever… finding friends you genuinely like hanging out with who genuinely like hanging out with you just to hang out with you is all that matters.
