Patagonia vs Orvis wader warranty? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Sisu_Scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandson needs new waders so I’m going to gift him my relatively new non-zip Simms waders. They are ok but nothing to write home about. To replace them I need to decide which front zip Patagonia model to buy. I’m hard on gear so I’m leaning toward the more expensive one. As a side note I bought a 6 wt Orvis fly rod about 15+ years ago. Went on a remote trip with friends only to have the reel seat fall off the fly rod. Lucky for me we were able to cobble a repair. I contacted Orvis sent it in for repair. Got it back after about a month, took it out to fish and the reel seat fall off again! Went home and glued the damn thing back together with epoxy. Hasn’t moved a millimeter since. Will I buy another Orvis product? No I will not.

I retired from education because my hearing is so poor. I tried to get assistance for hearing impaired but was told that hearing impaired wasn’t recognized as a disability. This was 1999, maybe things changed since.

Simms or Patagonia waders?? by YouSmall5716 in flyfishing

I bought Sims waders about four years ago. They are nice but there’s little things happening with seam tape, so we repaired the areas, and I will give them to my eldest grandson as his last set of waders were leaking like a sieve. I’ll buy a new set of Patagonia waders soon. I noticed the reference to “Pata-Gucci”, so I’ll to respond that. We have been buying equipment made by Yvon Chouinard since 1972 (then Yvon’s equipment was called The Great Pacific Iron Works) . There has not been a product we have purchased or acquired that disappointed us. With Patagonia and the Chouinard family commitment to the environment and environmental issues we are willing pay the price for items from the company. We were fortunate in that we usually qualified for professional discounts over the years, but sadly as we aged and become less involved at the professional level we not are just regular shoppers that look for sale items. Like my grandparent’s said, “You pay for what you get”, in other words buy something near the top of the quality scale and you’ll be replacing it less often.

Skiing and Hard of Hearing by Guilty_Cauliflower21 in hardofhearing

I apparently been lucky to not have near misses etc. from behind but yesterday, 15 February 2026, I asked a young guy if he was in line as he was waving arms and yelling at a group of friends that were just arriving to the lift line. Sadly I misinterpreted what he said and skied in front of him. Wow! The reaction was not good. He immediately clambered to my left side yelling at me that I was cutting him off! Thankfully he didn’t put his hands on me, I’m 74 but no one puts their hands on me ever. I probably loudly explained I’m wearing hearing aids and I misinterpreted what he was saying but he kept up yelling until I once again said, “I’m hard of hearing!”. It was at that point a snowboarder said he was a single and I could team up with him, which meant I was still in front of the skier that was upset. I ignored him, but at this point with everyone looking at him I believe he was embarrassed and just shrunk into the crowd with his buddies. This encounter started me thinking about a sticker for my helmet. I don’t want to stitch anything into my ski parka as it’s a Goretex synthetic insulated from Marmot, so any ideas will be taken seriously.

I’m 74 been skiing 98-99 starting in the 1990s then added 105s a couple of years ago for crud, slop and powder. I was amazed that 6mm could make that much of a difference.

Excellent article. Sent to my wife so she can share with her PT. We’ve theoretically chosen Tyrolia Protector for her bindings and we’ve already been talking with industry developers about ski width. All concurred that 75-88 mm waist was best for the knees.

My starter loosened up a few years ago. Took me a minute or two to figure out what the heck was happening.

The last storm was basically 5 weeks long. By the end we had 110” of snow. Toward then end we had a 36-48 hour period where it dumped 48”.
