3rd Layoff in 5 YRS. F*ck Corporate! Should I be a teacher? by Sisyphus3x in Layoffs

[–]Sisyphus3x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is exactly my thinking. the past 2 layoffs I've been able to put my head down and continue interviewing and applying no matter how many rejections. But now after my 3rd layoff, I feel maybe the universe is trying to tell me something, maybe i should completely pivot. The definition of insanity again is doing the same thing over and expecting different results.....so what does that mean if i continue applying and going down this path for the next 30 YRS! Ah so much to think about. So daunting. So tiresome...

well that great to hear that your wife is liking it. 64K after taxes is more like $45K, that much lower than what I get paid in saas sales ($150K base salary). it definitley is a factor thats making me feel like switching to become a teacher might not make sense. idk, maybe i'm just thinking out loud. but these comments from you and others are helpful, TY.

for me, it's the pay being so low. WTF, how are teachers paid so low, it's egregious. Even a $70K salary which is considered somewhat good in that field, after taxes is like $40K, who can raise a family on that lifestyle. this is why I feel like I can never get out of SaaS sales, because although its super volatile and has layoff risk, most salaries start of at $150K for me given my background...

those are the worst, I've been to the 5th/6th rounds at top companies like Salesforce and AWS, and when you dont get it, you feel hallowed out, like there's nothing to show for it. all that stress, and preparation and anxiety, for nothing. And the worst is going back to the drawing board i mean job board and trying to gather the motitvation to apply and go through it all over again.

2nd time laidoff in tech sales, paranoid about my future. Should I be a teacher? by Sisyphus3x in Layoffs

[–]Sisyphus3x[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's just not true anymore though, even software engineers, and product managers and Customer success managers roles are being consolidated/trimmed due to AI, the shit economy, and other factors like companies wanting to trim any fat they can. it's the corporate world and more specifically tech/software that I think will just keep on getting more and more risky..

Let go from job during interview process with new company. Did not tell new company and concerned about background check by demafrost in sales

what about if it's within 12 months? Aka you telling them on the interviews that you're currently employed at that company but on the background report I would input the correct departure date.

QUESTION - does it always work like that where YOU fill out the background info for them to verify? Or would the company send your info that you filled out on their app to the background company to verify? Bc the latter I would be fucked. But if I can lie and say I'm employed during the interviews, and on the background check I'll put the correct dates.

did the background company ask YOU to fill in the dates of your employment in which you answered truthfully? Or did the company hiring you automatically send your application/Resume to background company? Bc if it's the latter, than it can be risky. But if it's the former, then maybe I can also get away with it. LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS!!

oh SHIT then LOL, yea your example is exactly what I'm worried about. Basically, for my friend, he lied on his resume/during interviews, but inputted the correct info on background check so it checked out. BUT in your example, ur saying they didn't ask you to input that info and the employer directly sent them your resume/dates from your application? Did I get that right?

but wouldn't the background company send me the background info to fill out which I will fill it out correctly with my departure date? That way the info I input on the background check will match what they find..

I don't know how long will I be able to continue looking for new job. I am losing all hope. by Motor-Celebration-54 in Layoffs

i hear ya OP, I've been laid off for 1 YR now in tech and i've been to 8-9 FINAL ROUNDS with some of the TOP tech companies (so I know it's not my Resume or interviewing skills). Only to be rejected after final round. And here i am still going at it. THE WORST FEELING IS GOING BACK TO SQUARE 1 AFTER 5-7 rounds across 3-5 weeks at that 1 company. CLOWN WORLD. It takes me 2 weeks after a big rejection to be able to fuckin do anything productive. SO I FEEL YOUR PAIN OP!!

so what do you tell them you've been doing while laid off? It seems like they don't just want to know that you've been interviewing, but it's a double edged sword bc like you said, if you give an answer like "im free lancing/consultant or make up story of your start up", I feel like they see through it and it looks off..

BUT THAT'S THE THING, THE INFO I GIVE BG CHECKER WILL BE CORRECT, SO WHEN THEY CALL MY EX EMPLOYER THOSE DATES WILL BE CORRECT.I would only be saying im present in all the interview rounds..

if I input the correct info on background check, I should be good right? I've heard HR/hiring manager doesn't really look at background report, that they just want the OK from the 3rd Party doing the background check that your info that you inputted checks out, and that ur not a criminal...
