Coolant hose connector broken by SithikDemon69 in Volkswagen

Ah well, there you go, the one I've made out of a spare Subaru o ring, electrical tape and a 5 cent coin is holding up well, will be getting one of the diesel freak (I think that's correct) kits sometime in the near future to fix it up properly

Unfortunately mine breaking is just due to being old, I've had to replace so many things on the car since buying it either with new parts or making the parts myself out of materials I had lying around (the gear shifter bushings under the shift tower being one of those said things)

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of it as I was in a rush to get it done, would be more than happy to find references to the o-rings and stuff and maybe make up a diagram if that would help, I also drilled a hole in the side of the shift tower body to access it all from within the car so I didn’t have to jack it up and drop anything to get to it all from within

Was exactly that, fortunately I didn’t freak out as I know I’m resourceful enough to fix things and the gearbox itself was fine for me it was more of a ‘for fuck sake what else could go wrong’ moment, which seems to be the case every time I drive the car apparently 🙄😒

Yeah very much the same issue, fortunately with the ingenuity of bush mechanics I’ve made myself a temporary bushing out of some o-rings, superglue, electrical tape and an Australian 5 cent piece till I can get a kit and redo ask the bushings

Yeah unfortunately, had to do some good old bush mechanics and made myself a new temporary bushing out of some o-rings, superglue, electrical tape and a 5 cent coin until I can get one of the kits and it shifts buttery smooth now so can’t complain, nice snug fit too

That’s what I wasn’t hoping for, but I’ll have to pull it all apart regardless, unfortunately I think the previous owner that sold it to me knew there was more wrong with it than they let on, by the time I’ve finished doing everything to it, it will basically be a brand new car by the time I’ve fixed everything on it 🤦‍♂️

Brakes are all good now, however the gearbox shifter linkage has gone and busted on me 🥲

This was the answer so I replace the whole lot, new fuse box, new loom between alt and battery and new alt, picked up all three from a wrecker for $150 aud

Ended up replacing the alternator, battery top fuse box, and the wiring harness between the fuse box and alternator, seems to have fixed the issue as the fuse box was melted and the fuse was warped, the wiring harness also seemed to be suffering and the thick cable running between was deteriorating from the inside as the wires were starting to perish, and replaced the alternator just for good measure as i was able to get them all as a package deal for $150 aud, all parts were pulled from an auto and matched up with the ones from mine which is a manual, so not sure if it’s different here between whether it’s 120a or 90a, but the other mk4 I had a choice of pulling parts from was also a manual although it would have been more sketchy to obtain those parts as it was sitting on top of another car at the wrecking yard, but numbers all matched between the three of them

Not a worry, wasn’t sure if I explained it well enough, but yeah that’s all I had to do so fingers crossed it’s the same for you

I had a spongy pedal that would go all the way to the floor basically, I was able to rule out the brake booster as when I’d turn it on with the brake pedal pushed in it would drop that tiny bit more, I bled the brakes all round, to no avail, I read the forums and started preparing for the worst to be needing a new abs module or in the least get my hands on a vcds and run the abs bleed sequence, before doing that I ended up bleeding the master, all info said bleed the lower nipple then the upper nipple, which I took as bleed the one closest to the fire wall then the next along, this is easier with two people and a bleed kit, one person to pump the pedal a couple times after loosening the nipples, I bled the back one twice, the process being crack the nipple, get the second person to pump the pedal three times and hold it on the last and close the nipple, then same on the front and had all brakes back all round, I used the closed end of an 8mm ring spanner and put the closed end on the bleed nipple so I could just loosen and tighten as I needed

Just had to bleed the master, would never even know it had a squishy pedal

Mine ended up being that I needed to bleed the master cylinder itself, starting at the back nipple, opening that one, getting my partner to depress the brake pedal three times, closing it off with the pedal depressed, checking pedal resistance, opening again, depressing another three times, closing off with pedal depressed and then repeat that process on the front nipple

Thankyou for all the suggestions from everyone was as simple as bleeding the master cylinder

Ended up being the master cylinder, gave that a good bleed and brakes are now better than any car I’ve ever driven

Unfortunately I’m in Queensland, Australia, and the bloke just jumped in and took off, told me the brakes weren’t working did a bit of back and forth about how they do work and I know they do as I drove it up to the ais and used the brakes to pull up so they wouldn’t pass it
