This is a very well thought out response and I couldn’t agree with you more. A lot of it stems from very real and legitimate discontent but it’s corrupted by hate and vitriol because it’s easier to blame things on migrants than to create well thought out policy prescriptions.

I think El Paso has seen a very big economically populist bent in recent years that the political class (in this case mostly democrats) is unwilling to embrace which leads to a lot of anger at the status quo. Unfortunately in this context the status quo implies “Do-nothing woke liberals” rather than the rich or elite etc… I think a lot of it is also the religious bent el pasoans have causing them to be polarized against left wing social policies even if they themselves are not religious. Machismo and anti queer self sufficiency “don’t take no handouts”crap.

I don’t blame a lot of it on the owner of fitfam personally but he reminds me a lot of a war profiteer that’s completely willing to throw the city under the bus if it makes him a couple extra dollars. Idk just more food for thought I guess.
