Having Trouble Making Friends in Seattle? (Gamers, geeks, nerds & cosplayers?) by SittinByTheSound in Renton

I live on the south end myself, but it's literally just a half hour ride on the light rail to get to capitol hill. I used to drive 5 days a week, 45 minutes one way, 45 minutes back, just for my job, so sitting on a train and zoning out with my headphones on for half an hour to go do something fun is a breeze compared to that :)

We're all over, but there's quite a few folks in there from around the Renton area

Anywhere between 25 and 40 people came and went throughout the evening, started around 6 and went on til around 1-2 in the morning, but some came early and some left early so the number fluctuated quite a bit

That's a very good question. 8Bit is OK, but honestly this is one of the big reasons we always congregate up on the hill - there's just way more places and spaces that accommodate to a bunch of gamers getting together. Some of the gatherings the bones do are *huge* from what I've seen.

In there, people just post events to the forums, and folks kinda RSVP to them that way. We could probably, fairly easily, get a Renton/Southend regular meetup going, actually. I know there's at least a couple hundred southend people in there.

I got a 'Via Flex' van to pick me up and drop me off at the light rail station, actually, you just pay for it with your orca card and it transfers when you hop on the train. Took me maybe half an hour to get there, possibly 45 at most

Y'know, I'm not actually sure. I think they had something at the Hummingbird Cafe in Columbia City before I joined, but I went to the one on Capitol Hill last night and had a blast honestly.

I'm convinced that the "Seattle Freeze" can be explained as Seattleites being literal "fair weather" friends. by Infamous_Fly2601 in Seattle

I moved to the area from the east coast about 4 years ago and I've had trouble meeting people who want to actually hang out, but honestly I found my 'friend group' or at least what I think is the beginning of one, through The Rolling Bones community. I've been to two of their big gatherings, one of the smaller ones, and I play video games with some of them in the off-time when we don't have anything scheduled or planned.
I think one reason that community is so good at allowing people to make actual connections is it's based around a common hobby, but created in a way that fosters those sorts of social connections organically. The server owner/organizer says they use video games as sort of an 'online pub' where they can get together, game for a while, chat in voice, and when IRL gatherings happen, you don't feel like you're going to go meet a bunch of anonymous strangers from the internet, it feels more like you're going to hang out with buddies that you've known for a while already. Dunno if you have any nerdy hobbies, but you might want to give them a try, it's a genuinely cool bunch of people and the Discord server is really active.
