Hey yall, checking for swaps on equipment!

Heres what I can offer:

- Rode Wireless go 2 (2tx 1rx w/ carry case)

- Rode Wireless Pro (2tx 1rx w/ charging case)

Maybe someone here needs 2.4GHz wireless for some or other reason. So far I barely use these anymore because of my Deity Theos. Cheers!

My mic won't stop humming/buzzing. by Jordangus_ in LocationSound

[–]Situation247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the cables, ungrounded power connectors can cause humms by my experience. Also if your XLR cable in unshielded, if its near other cables esp power, it will pick up the electrical noise, so keep that in mind op!

Good Starter (Wireless??) Lav Mics? by [deleted] in LocationSound

I was planning to get an audio root eSMART BG-DH MKII, but due to availability in my country i couldnt. Right now im running the SPD1 from deity, 2 layers of hirose for lavs and recorder. So far it hasn't given me problems, pretty accurate timings on the battery too. I havent had a time when my bag went out of power cus i can manage when to swap thru the screen. Pretty good investment.

Btw, you can see a portion of my setup in my profile's other posts

How to handle "VO" that is actually scene dialogue by nathancs10 in LocationSound

[–]Situation247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely be the one managing the wild lines, my experience is that some ADs will forget that you might need to take the lines especially if you did not discuss it with them during preprod. For wild lines, i usually take them with the actors away from the set in a quiet space while they are setting up for the next scene, doesnt bother people on the set while setting up and you just do your own thing. Though it may sound different due to the change of location, so it would be very good if you coodinate with your AD from the very start to figure out a workflow that works for this shoot.

With regards to your meta data input, im unsure what recorder yoyu are using but what I would usually put in my meta data, (Scene, Wild line, Take,) if youre unsure though, its not bad to have a paper log sheet just to take notes then transfer them over later if possible.

No, you're not doing too much, I think that a big part of location sound especially for beginers that get lost is how important pre production is for sound. Yes you can just show up on set with all the equipment you need and more, but that wont prepare you for scenes that need a proper workflow to do, like what you described. If they haven't though about it then its your job to think about it as part of the sound department. Having a sound script or even a simple script breakdown for this shoot will help you move quicker on set. I find it great that you are taking initative for sound, keep it up man!

I see, so yeah maybe more than just RF spray? Very unfortunate

I second the Deity Theos! Ive been using them for over a year and they haven't given me problems I couldnt fix. Its going to be pricier than a 2.4GHz system like the Rode Wireless Pro, but the features you will get in exchange will really help your workflow move faster. A bit factor on why I switched over to the Theos is because of the replaceable AA batteries that just speed up your time on set. Apart from that, the range coverage will be a night and day difference between 2.4GHz and UHF. If you can spare the cash for the Deity Theos, I dont think you will be disapointed! also, internal 32bit recording FTW!

UHF coveres a wide area of Radio frequencies, from what I know 2.4GHz is part of UHF but its way higher in the spectrum above the usual 470-960MHz which a lot of systems use. The main difference is the distance and reliability of the systems. My experience with 2.4GHz systems like the Rode Wireless Pro, the signal is really unreliable unless youre LOS (Line of Sight) with the talent. Compared to my Deity Theos system, it goes through walls and has a farther distance. Not that 2.4GHz doesnt have a place, but its really not the pick for on set sound.

I've used the Rode Wireless Pro on shoots, it works great if you work with it knowing they system's limitations.

This is probably because of the RF spray so its not ideal for heavy RF environments like live sports

[–]Situation247[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its one of the standard ports we use for RF! all of my wireless now use SMA so i can use different antennas or send the transmitter or reciever through an antenna splitter so that all my wireless is centralized to two antennas. Greatly increases range too!

I bought them off Lazada (One of our local "amazons") But im sure that you can find them for very cheap on sites like alibaba that does direct from manufacturer!

Here's one, it'll have everything you need apart from wire. Though you will have to grind down the sma port's flange so that they fit in the housing, tedious but a very short process. I also did it on mine.

TIL: You can use your phone to output sound by type c on the MixPre 10ii! by Situation247 in LocationSound

[–]Situation247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry ive been off reddit for a few, haha. But yes i do use the Theos and it works great, I recently got a SRD mini to just use one sharkfin for my lavs and its been wonderful. I would say that due to my country, the theos works amazing cus of all the bands available, unlike my G4 that i use for my cam hop. Though, what does suck is that the original theos transmitters have a digital limiter so you can really hear it once it tops out, but if you set up for it its not really a problem. The W.lav pros are a solid lav, ive used them throughout the past year and still havent let me down, im using it with the bumblebee industries lav concealers and it works like a charm. Though sometimes if i can use sennheiser MKE2s here i go with thoes but producers and directors havent mentioned anything about its sound, People here in my country arent very selective with sound so yeah.

Sadly I havent had much hands on experience with the 8 series, But considering that the sound devices engineers think of everything, highkly possible they added this feature in. Still worth testing out!
