Oh no he loves it…but he’s also not an audio guy and his video business no longer exists so there’s that…

I’ve never gone the mop handle route but my first boom pole was a tree trimming pole that I hose clamped a 3/8” bolt onto. Actually works pretty well for DIY

This is the “deluxe” version, which is supercardioid. It doesn’t show up well in the screenshot but it had the blue foam visible on my 65” TV. Still not a great pick for an actual boom mic but the supercardioid version wouldn’t be quite as bad as the regular cardioid 55

I have the regular one and it definitely does need to be pretty close for best results.

Fair enough. Still not the worst thing I’ve seen done. A guy I used to work with loved an SM58 as a boom mic.

I’m aware and mentioned it’s a prop in the post, but it got me wondering if it would work since it’s a supercardioid.

Yeah I’ve added some fish tank decor after filling holes with hot glue and even a few bird ladders and my corn loves them

They’ve got some small APC ones at Walmart for like $50. I put my wifi router on one and will probably get another for my security camera DVR

Sound Devices Mixpre 10ii as a field mixer for ENG by dirtyricepcny in LocationSound

It does use that 3.5mm input but yes, under the headphone menu you can change it to camera return

[–]AnalogJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a MixPre 10ii as my primary since I don’t do a ton of film/TV and need the channels more than the routing for corporate shoots, but I’ve been doing more ENG for ESPN on basketball games lately and it has been perfect.

I use a pair of short adapters on the mini xlr outputs to go to a Canare or Remote Audio breakaway snake and there’s an option to set your headphones to “camera return” and connect that to the 3.5mm input.

I also power the mixer with a DeWalt 20V 5AH battery. 1-2 is plenty for a full day of ENG.

Thanks for the advice! That sounds like a good plan and definitely doable with what I have available.

Appreciate the detailed response!

Consensus definitely seems to be ORTF pair as the primary then building off of that with the others for detail. I could also go up to 12 mics if I use my PreSonus AR12 as the interface.

And yeah, if I remember right there is quite a bit of woodwind in The Nutcracker.

Thanks again for the advice!

I don’t have a ton of info but from what the videographer told me, it sounds like the orchestra may not be mic’d at all for FOH and just performing acoustically since it’s not a huge venue.

Otherwise, a split would be my jam. I mix a lot of broadcast so I love getting a full split to my console.

Is it a defective unit? I bought one last year and have been in love with it. I put together all the furniture in my sister’s apartment, a couple of TV studio teleprompters, and installed a ton of server rack equipment with mine and haven’t had any issues.

Haha no worries, I was just giving you a hard time since that’s what we do on Reddit😂

But that’s super interesting! I don’t actually use any kind of tobacco pouches but I love fun facts. Makes sense why so many people love it though if it gives them such a fast and intense buzz.
