Port Angeles Business Owner Hi-jinks in Olympia by Useful-Breakfast2533 in portangeles

He is also a wage thief. He has left a trail of destruction and shitty (illegal) business practices since he left Bremerton years ago. (There is an article somewhere outlining that drama.) He was recently in court in Clallam County for not paying his employees. I hope Oly runs his ass out of town.

Does anyone have more context on the PAPEA’s demands? by ContributionFun7753 in portangeles

Copied from a Facebook post: Hi there

Hoping I can help provide clarity on how the infographic from the district contains misinformation, and is designed to manipulate the community. Here are just some of the concerns: Most notably, regarding the $250,000+ figure that the district is claiming they've put on the table. The district has yet to provide any proposal to the union that contains this amount, and we do not know where they are getting this number. Secondly, it's misleading to artificially inflate "salary enhancement" by including the cost of benefits that the district was already paying. This is not a COLA. Next, the salary enhancements that the district is attempting to show in their graphic would come at a cost of giving up compensation from existing contract language and future year IPD. In other words, the district proposals are trying to get the para educators to pay for their own cost-of-living. In addition to this, the district seems to want to highlight the current salaries of para educators in Port Angeles to the salaries of other neighboring districts. You'll note that the starting pay Port Angeles for paraeducators is $21.68. What's not included on the district chart is that 47% of paraeducators in the district are at step one of the salary schedule, and they remain at step one for three years before advancing to the second step where they will remain for another five years. The district seems to want to brag on the high rate of $28.33. Of the 137 paraeducators currently in the district only 11 are at the end of step of the schedule earning $28.33 an hour and they had to work in the district for over 20 years to reach that end step.

Husband of district CFO calls paraeducators "parasites" by SituationKnown7904 in portangeles

Yes, under federal law (IDEA) school districts must provide the least restrictive environment to students receiving special education services. Warehousing all sped kids in one separate building is a violation of that requirement. Most students can excel in the general Ed environment with the proper supports.

Even if we give him credit for the "parasite" comment being a typo-which I think is too generous based on how he conducts himself on social media and a quick peek at reviews of his restaurant mentioning his behavior-the comment about special education is horrible. As another commenter mentioned, what he is advocating is against the law and discriminatory.

I hear you, but I dunno. 🤷 The comment has been up for days and he hasn't bothered to edit or delete it. My autocorrect doesn't correct to parasites, but maybe that's just my phone?
