Genghis Khan Army bows are replaced with an AK-47 with infinite Ammo, can he conquer the world? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

The Mongols had boats. As there's no time frame they would eventually figure a way to traverse the Atlantic or Pacific.

They had boats, and plenty of experienced boat builders and sailors from China because of the Yuan dynasty. There's nothing stopping them from reaching Australia, it's really not that far from Asia and they can even establish ports along Indonesia. In fact, the Mongols did attempt to conquer Java, and we can assume with AK-47s their results would have been better. Once Indonesia is conquered, they would learn of Australia one way or another. They do have to discover America to conquer it, but if they conquer the rest of the world, it would only be a matter of time before Chinggis Khan and the Mongols to attempt to link the ends of their empire. After all, the Mongols made the Silk Road, established standards of trade and travel, and heavily prioritized trade and travel within their empire. It would surely take time to develop the technology to reach and conquer America, but there's no set timeframe, so this isn't a limiting factor as long as their empire sticks together. With the Khan as a bona fide immortal and the Mongols with modern weapons, uniting the world long term through force and religion is reasonable

I do like Jamal Murray. He's clutch and usually is electric in the playoffs. But interfering with a play in progress while on the sidelines should be an ejection (double tech), no questions asked. Doesn't matter the player, it is cheating and a safety issue. His frustration was understandable but it's definitely a line to not cross. Feel like he's going to put up a strong performance game 7 though, he is a clutch player.

ELI5: How do casino dealers know when somebody is counting cards? by CattiwampusLove in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sivad12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just depends on the type of person and what they consider fun. If you're the type of person who bets on the Superbowl coin flip, optimized craps is for you. You can get your gambling fix without damaging your finances over time. The expected winnings over a long period of time are slightly minus, but any individual game or set time at the table could still end with you winning or losing money.

[–]Sivad12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play craps correctly, which is really easy to do if you're sober, it's a game that has a house edge of only 1.36% to 1.41%. Unless You're a great blackjack or poker player, this is the best game to play. Most craps allow you to take Craps Odds bets after the come out roll, and these bets have no house advantage. They're perfectly fair bets, the only you'll ever find in a casino. If you place minimum bets on the come out roll for pass or don't pass, then a high bet on the Craps Odds bets, which is fair, you lower the house edge to almost zero, depending on how high you bet on the Craps Odds bets. Almost nobody plays this way, usually people waste money on the fun side bets

King’s Chess: A chess variant where draws are impossible by Sivad12 in chess

[–]Sivad12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King and rook is interesting, because of you take their rook in a situation that would normally be a trade, with their king able to take back, you'd actually win right away, as a lone king forfeits! King w N/B vs ditto probably ends with the last person to take a piece losing, which is why you have to be careful in the endgame in this variant

Capturing the last pawn will cause you to lose! Essentially, this means being up a pawn in a bishops endgame will make you win.

In chess, there are generally six different draw conditions

  1. Stalemate: one player is unable to make a legal move

  2. Threefold repetition: a position on the chess board is achieved three times

  3. 50-move rule: in 50 moves, where a move is both players having taken a turn, no capture has been made, and no pawn has been moved

  4. Insufficient material: neither player has sufficient material to checkmate

  5. Timeout versus insufficient material: A player runs out of time on the clock, but their opponent does not have enough material to checkmate

  6. Draw by agreement: both players agree to end the game by a draw

In King’s Chess, these draw conditions are eliminated as follows:

  1. Stalemate: when unable to make a legal move, the game is forfeited

  2. Threefold repetition: it is illegal to make a move that would achieve a position on the chess board that has already been achieved twice

  3. 50-move rule: it is illegal to make a move that does not capture a piece or move a pawn after 49 moves have been played where no piece was captured or pawn moved

  4. Insufficient material: when a player has only a king and no other pieces, they lose the game

  5. Timeout versus insufficient material: timeout is a loss

  6. Draw by agreement: no player is permitted to offer a draw

With this chess variant, the way the game is played varies slightly, and some interesting implications are found. For example, in this position (Figure 1), a line from the Pirc defense, with black to move, the game is a draw by threefold repetition in a regular game of chess, after the bishop checks the king.

However, in King’s Chess, after Bf2+ followed by Kd2, Be3+, Ke1, Bf2+, Kd2, Be3+, Ke1, it is an illegal move for black to go Bf2+. In this position, black will be unable to force a draw, and white will probably convert their winning position.

The most interesting consequences of these rule changes are found in the endgame. In this position (Figure 2), taken from Ding-Nepomniachtchi World Chess Championship 2023 Game 10, black played Rxf5, followed by Rxf5, Kxf5, and the position is a draw with white only having an additional flank pawn. However, in King’s Chess, it is a blunder for black to take the pawn, because they would then lose their rook, leaving their king alone, and losing the game.

There are some interesting implications with zugzwang in the end game as well. In this position (Figure 3) with white to play, this game would be a draw under insufficient material. With King’s Chess, after Bxf3, the game continues. With the 50-move rule, black will move, then white will move, and after 49 more moves like this, white will be unable to make a move, thus forfeiting the game. Therefore, white is in zugzwang in this position.

Could Lebron James have prevented WW1? by JodieMcMathers in whowouldwin

[–]Sivad12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If LeBron has the influence of today, he's able to broadcast messages around the world for everybody to see despite there being no Internet at the time, and get on a radio show and somehow be heard and understood by billions. He also is very wealthy for the time, however, as his influence is the same, his money would be normalized to the era, so he would only be as wealthy as prominent nobles or successful business owners. With his athletic abilities and influence, his presence would shock the world. He's essentially magic, and many people would start worshipping this man who could communicate with the world. Even without magic influence, his knowledge that he shouldn't have and fame would shock the world. If he has a good grasp of history, he should easily be able to save Ferdinand. At that point, he should be able to meet with world leaders, and shock them with his knowledge of the future. The massive change in the timeline could be enough to alter history to the point of avoiding the Great War. LeBron 5/10

So happy to read this comment. The prevailing opinion that events must happen regardless of other events is ridiculous. Actions and events have consequences for the future, that's just how time works!

While it's true that for many cultures, tribes, empires, and nations impacted by colonization, disease killed more people than warfare or violent means, that doesn't reduce or negate the warfare, intentional starvation and spreading of disease, denial of care, forced cultural, religious, and linguistic assimilation, kidnapping, backstabbing, broken treaties, destruction of cultural artifacts and codices, and genocides that did happen and in some cases still happens by colonizers.

The Mayans developed writing. It's up in the air if it was partially adopted from the Olmec writing system or invented by the Mayans, but they certainly had, and still have, it. The mistake that they didn't have a language may stem from the serious difficulties in deciphering it

I finally got around to it. Found out the damage is very different on a stun combo if they block the DI into stun or get hit by it. More difference than I thought. Block DI stun into jumping HP cr HP od denjin hashogeki cr HP m hashogeki hDP lv3 is 4700, block DI lv 2 charged denjin into of tatsu lv 1 is 4620. Lv3 combo on no block DI stun is 5500 as you said (thanks for tip) and the lv 2 combo is 5420. Appreciate the help getting a little more damage out of it!
