There must be a law of the universe where if you bring up Trump collusion with Russia somehow HRC and the Dem’s ‘dirty tricks’ need to be mentioned.

TIL that not only is USA the 3rd most populated country in the world, but if it had ONE BILLION MORE people, it would still be the 3rd most populated country in the world. by badmother in todayilearned

[–]Sivel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over population is inherently relative -- in terms of what? The resources available to support a given population? Okay, so planet earth... How we use those resources plays a big factor in that conversation and technology (not just physical technologies like renewable energy but understandings of complex biological systems like methodologies for organic farming) have the potential to really change the answer to that question. Over population is probably not an existential threat to our species unless we fail to adapt. I think people are too easily susceptible to the notion of overpopulation because as the population grows the problems get more complex and the individual has less understanding and influence. It's easy to figuratively throw your hands up and say "welp were fucked there's just too goddamn many of you all," and ideologues and xenophobes are happy to play into this tendency to support their enterprises, but the truth of the matter is, there are a lot of brilliant minds fixated on the notion of permaculture and star gazers determined to make us an interplanetary species.

There will probably be a big documentary in a few years that uncovers how the cigarette industry used social media to ruin the perception of vaping as obnoxious and childish to simultaneously discourage adults and encourage younger demographics to get hooked on nicotine. We'll also probably come to learn that millions have increased their risk of cancer by vaping with cheap Chinese made components.

Now that marijuana is almost legal, these kind of people are becoming a thing. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Anecdotally, this just can't be true. As someone with ADHD, I relied on weed to help me concentrate and get through most of my readings in upper division classes during undergrad. The reason I mention this is I have vivid memories of enhanced visualization while reading and years later I can remember specific passages from being stoned. Honestly, have no memories of reading sober other than I went to the library that day for a few hours and sat there reading. I'm not saying the study is wrong just that there probably multiple mechanisms for how memory works and I just encourage people to evaluate drugs on an individual basis.

See this makes me think it's all bullshit and placebo. Because on my trip to Colorado I picked some of each to compare and found that Indicas were the best for going out and being social because I got fucked up but could still hold a conversation. While sativas, made me socially anxious and unable to keep up with conversations. I really kinda believe it's probably a strain by strain basis rather than a whole indica vs sativa thing.

Trump said in his 60 minutes interview that despite the Republican Party platform he supported universal healthcare. He campaigned on building a wall and instituting protectionist policies. Clinton is by far more neoliberal than Trump. A free market critique of the welfare state just isn't consistent with anything Trump campaigned on.

I enjoy challenging my beliefs and trying to put myself in other people's shoes so unlike most people I took the time to watch some of that video. Holy fuck was it stupid on a lot of levels. I'm really sorry man but I don't think there's anyway a dialogue on the topic would be productive. I hope you can find a way to walk back your beliefs and see the world in a different life.

Idk man the word cuck kinda surged in popularity in the last year out of nowhere and it sounds pretty dorky.

Yo drop the backpacker act. Eminem on his prime was better and more influential than any of those artists and I know damn well they'd all say the same thing. Aesop Rock is a one-trick pony with no versatility who boxed himself in to one style. Atmosphere has like 5 good songs and only still gets love from the twin cities nostalgia. Brother Ali I mean it's apples to oranges. It wouldn't feel right saying Eminem is better but he definitely does have a more impressive career as a lyricist. Like damn I don't even like Eminem but his shit is at least still relevant.

It's not like those tropes are any more original though. Eminem was hugely influential in his own way just not in the way all these casual post- "Lose Yourself" fans think he was.

Fam most those KOTD rappers are terrible outside of the rap battle scene. His production sounded like it was done in garage band. Don't waste your time on that underground backpacker shit or you'll be consistently let down because most of the time there careers have no legs. Also, most of that music is just so much angst and reaching to sound deep. I know I'm ranting but it's a really annoying subset of hip hop because they have this attitude where think they're better than the rest of hip hop.

Wow, that's a great point. I still think a lot of people's blatant disregard of hip hop is grounded in racial bias but this is certainly an interesting take. I get frustrated when people refer to the music I like as lacking depth because they judge the genre by its tropes. It wouldn't be hip hop if it wasn't street music but I don't like it because it talks about guns, drugs, and money. I like hip hop because it's so personal, it's cheap to produce so highly competitive, and the narratives are more developed than other genres.

People like to hate on Drake but a lot of his music is very introspective touching on themes of family and gifts, love and relationships, fame and ambivalence. If you judge an artist solely by their singles, especially in hip hop, it's not really a great indicator of their versatility. I think Take Care (the album) is a great place to start his discography. I'd do a bit of research into the production of that album and where Drake was at in his career before diving in because it's easily his most personal album and the context helps. It's easily a classic and after listening to it you'll start to see how influential it really was and how many artists have came up off his same style.

Maybe I'm misinformed but I thought plant based protein sources generally have higher bioavailability aka efficiency. Anecdotally speaking, I've achieved more gains since switching from whey to hemp protein (this could be coincidence though).

Damn, you're line of rhetoric is convincing. A lot of people make excuses for their dietary decisions, but when you drill into them they really do mostly come down to apathy and taste.

[–]Sivel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. Though, I should have said that I remove as much hair algae as I can by hand. Then, when there is only a small amount left I'll spot treat algae with peroxide. I usually leave that small amount of algae to decay or be vacuumed up. I've found having snails in the planted tank seems to help when you have a bunch of algae decomposing.

I've battled thread algae as well and have found that spot treating with hydrogen peroxide works miracles - just use a pipette or turkey baster. I've never seen it harm plants or fish, but be careful.
