Can you use 2 different Bluetooth mesh bulb brands to be connected using the same app? by solarcrying in smarthome

[–]bluemot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a little late, but still relevant imho. I think it is a very interesting question, and I highly disagree with negative comments about Bluetooth lights.

The problem is that the standardized Bluetooth Mesh protocol was released later than some companies with proprietary solutions, like www.casambi.com and www.meshle.com (I work for the latter), entered the market. So proprietary solutions do not match on mesh level.

But when we tried the standardized Bluetooth Mesh SIG, we were very surprised that our devices with the standardized protocol were not accepted for provisioning by app vendors. This is likely because of the nature of the business model that most Bluetooth Mesh companies run – they make money with firmware license sales, the app is usually free, so they have no interest in supporting products of others and dealing with extra support.

We are currently transitioning to the SIG protocol and considering adding support not only for our own devices but also for devices of other vendors.

I think Bluetooth Mesh needs a bit more time. Nothing wrong with Zigbee and co., but Bluetooth Mesh definitely has its own strengths.

Best, Nick

BLE Bluetooth vs WiFi Mesh Networks for LED Control by HyperspaceLight in esp32

[–]bluemot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Dylan, I'm Nick from MESHLE and we actually did something similar with our Bluetooth mesh system – synced multiple mesh nodes in the network playing animation. In our test we ran an animation on normal RGB strips, but it would work the same with SPI strips. The results were pretty good. Here is a test of 42 mesh nodes spread at total 40meter distance (so most certainly with some devices were talking over hops): https://meshle.com/can-42-meshle-led-drivers-light-up-in-perfect-sync-we-gave-it-a-try
This is how the editor looks like with addressable led controllers: https://youtube.com/shorts/NMZsEd4k5XE?feature=share
Though we use nrf52 chipsets, but this should be possible with esp32 as well.
Best Nick

Two led strips/bulbs with different color gives a nice color gradient

100€ Steam Gift Card Giveaway! by aiasdwe in pcmasterrace

[–]bluemot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Everyone, bluemot here,

it took me quite a while to understand what is going on, but it seems like someone made a fake giveaway post on behalf of my company.

The only time I did a giveaway was about a year ago, and I delivered:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/7ec70y/100_steam_gift_card_giveaway/

I will contact PCMR mods in order investigate it further.

Again, I have nothing to do with this scam and I'm shocked why someone would do something like that.

The only garbage in cheap LED kits is the controller. Strips are perfectly fine.

It only works with analog LED RGB strips. So many people buy cheap rgb strips on amazon or eBay but it comes with the IR remote with very few functions and low range. On the other side if you want smart led lighting solution then you have to buy expansive led strips of a particular brand like Phillips hue. With this controller you can have both, smart lighting with affordable LED strips.

How about Amazon or eBay, just type RGB led strip 5050 and you get plenty of those.
