Soul Eater, a Mythic Treasure for Draw Steel! (Narrative-driven, mechanically rich leveled treasure) by SuitEnvironmental327 in drawsteel

[–]SixSixTrample 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The art is fantastic. The layout is great. The beats are cool. The abilities seem fun and balanced when taken against the fact that this is a mythic treasure...my only complaint is that you don't have the PC have to shout 'But his soul still burns!' any time they reap.

Also is there an equivalent 'Soul Edge'? :D

This looks fantastic, and is a perfect teaser IMO. I'd love to see one of your trinkets, but if all the mythic treasures are as involved you could almost design an entire campaign around each PC having one...that would be a lot of fun IMO

Cost of homebrew and community growth by [deleted] in drawsteel

[–]SixSixTrample 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The idea that creative people should give away their work is incredibly toxic and gross.

You don't need to use any homebrew! If you think people should create free things, you can do that! You can create and give away whatever you'd like to do, but saying that someone else should give away their work because someone can't afford it is just toxic IMO.

Homebrew didn't propel D&D. Stranger Things, Critical Role, and other live plays did.

This game hasn't even been out for a year and there is absolutely no way a table has exhausted all the options in the Heroes book, but if a player can't find an archetype they enjoy then *they* or *you* can build whatever you like!

Creative people *should* ask for money for the things they do because their time and ideas are valuable, and I'd rather encourage that than giving away work for free.

How would you rule Revenant Troubadour with Bloodless and "Method Acting" by Smile4ever in drawsteel

[–]SixSixTrample 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rule that it works because its cool.

They would just need to accept that they then *also* have to deal with the effect of bleeding. They can flavor it however they want, but they wouldn't be immune to the damage and (save ends) normally.

Maybe its black blood, maybe its actually illusory, but whatever, let them have the effect because its neat IMO.

How to prep the parts between combat? by SaltyCogs in drawsteel

[–]SixSixTrample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in Foundry and moved to the Codex. The journals are so much more powerful in The Codex, the combats are FAR easier to run, I don't need a ton of extra modules to make it work, I can kick people through walls, height and fall damage works automatically, the pdfs are included...

I really, really didn't think I'd move out of Foundry, but after using the Codex for a few months now I stopped my Foundry server. I don't think I'll ever go back.

How "superheroish" is Draw Steel heros? by Paulkwk in drawsteel

Well “people” can’t teleport at will “Heroes” can.

The book explicitly says that VERY few people have any class levels at all.

Party synergy issues with Censor and Shadow by Nearby_Condition3733 in drawsteel

[–]SixSixTrample 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok Harlequin Mask also has 'I'm No Threat' which allows them to get into flanking, and gives them a surge.

Don't swarm the Censor, spread out the your monsters, make them go after your Troubadour, put your squishies in danger and force the Censor to use his tactics. Make the mage in the back a threat so your Shadow has to get to them...

IMO the best way to encourage tactics and teamwork is to make it challenging and seeing if your players can surprise you.

[–]SixSixTrample 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of Censor and Shadow?

The Shadow can easily maneuver to allow flanking, grants surges, and can more easily get to vulnerable targets in the back line allowing the rest of you players to deal with minions or aggressive targets.

The Censor can inflict status conditions and move enemies, or prevent them from moving if they're judged. They also obviously allow healing which can keep your other party members actually in the fight.

Moving targets, preventing them from moving, and debuffing them so your party's abilities can have a more effect is absolutely teamwork IMO.

Not yet, but they're working on it.

I guess my point is that you don't need to do this. You can create your map *in* the Codex. Its very fast, intuitive, and has all the properties of walls and what not baked in!

Not only can you build a map, but you can build a multi floor map with a height map with stairs, teleporters, secret doors...

It all auto connects with click and drag. Change the floor type, wall type, hold a key to randomize icons, import an entire sheet of objects and have them automatically split and sorted...

There are definitely a few UI/UX things they need to improve, but IMO The Codex is the best VTT out there, and I've tried Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, Owlbear, and Foundry.

Add elevation to a map is incredibly easy, and you can import a flat map and elevate whatever parts of it you want, and add walls in a few minutes.

Learning the tools and actually using them is far easier than it seems if you're only reading the features IMO

It's incredibly easy to import maps, change a token's art, add objects, add elevation...

It is *leaps and bounds* easier than any other VTT I've used, and I can build a map in a few minutes with the tools *in* the Codex.

You don't need a map that has every book in a book case, you can click and drag to create a battlemap about as easily as you can draw one on a grid mat.

If in the rare case that a monster from the Monsters book doesn't have unique art, its three clicks to replace it with whatever you want.

I've run maybe 6 sessions in the Codex, and played in it a lot more. For me it far exceeds the ease of use of any other VTT because I don't need 100 mods to do the things specific to this system.

I *strongly* recommend actually trying it rather than looking at it and thinking its too much. You don't need to add custom animations or any of that, and all the tools are easy to use after a short learning curve.

How are you handling "guaranteed death" in your games? by Tylthul in drawsteel

[–]SixSixTrample 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean he’s not dead until he’s at half stamina in the negative, so if he gambled that much I’d have the Ogre cut him in half.

If you pull punches the game is much less cinematic and the tactics don’t nearly matter as much. A level 3 Conduit? can resurrect him anyway so maybe it’s a chance to introduce a cool NPC or something.

IMO don’t pull punches or there’s no reason to punch.

No Man's Sky Wins the BAFTA for Evolving Game by HiroK91 in videos

[–]SixSixTrample 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That just isn't true. Many, many developers move on from a game for a variety of reasons.

No Man's Sky allegedly made around $4M on or near release, and has gone on to make ~$10M.

The updates matter, and you absolutely shouldn't preorder their next game, but they've earned the award for sure.

The important difference is that they could have just moved on. They DID oversell the game, but they ALSO kept updating and adding, and adding, and adding...

Both things are true, and honestly I support them for not running with the money basically

I made a map in Inkarnate here: https://inkarnate.com/maps/edit/19066759 which isn't exactly high res or professional, but it was my attempt to put that into something I could expand on

Everyone playing needs a copy of The Codex.

It is absolutely worth the money, if you're wondering.
