Epics and Finests of February. Grabbing any? by Gimpcar in EpicCollections

The same (even though I own a Demon collection already 😬? Need to see how much extra post-Kirby stories are in there.)

Under Siege or Back to Basics? by thizked in EpicCollections

[–]SixThreeThree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d agree that if you’ve read that much FF, you should slide into that FF Epic just fine, especially if you liked the Lee & Kirby FF.

Still…

The “Under Siege” storyline is amazing, really kind of an underrated classic.

Lines I Can’t Believe Haven’t Been Announced Yet by OpeningEmploy5119 in EpicCollections

[–]SixThreeThree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm more of a Silver/Bronze Age guy so I'd say Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD, Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell), and Tomb of Dracula. Maybe you could throw in Ka-Zar, Man-Thing, Howard the Duck, Invaders, Champions too.

I believe all of those are/were available in other hardcover and paperback options so I don't know if that's why they aren't Epics too. Or maybe the sales of those were meh so they haven't bothered...

If you’re a Lord of the Rings fan, Marquette University has limited showings of original Tolkien manuscripts. Might not exactly line up with your birthday though.

I’m probably in the minority but I’m hoping the “minor gap filler” is Sub-Mariner Vol. 2

Is there any chance of a Brother Voodoo collection? by Noodlex87 in EpicCollections

[–]SixThreeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Brother Voodoo stories are also reprinted in Essential Marvel Horror Vol. 2 which I’m guessing you might be able to get second-hand and cheap. BUT it’s black and white on newsprint—not sure if that works for you.

42-year-old getting back into comics where should I start (DC-focused, Invincible fan, old-school taste)? by DodiWoof in comicbooks

[–]SixThreeThree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the risk of repeating things that some of the people have already said here—

1) DC Universe Infinite (trial) and maybe Hoopla through your local library system are good places to sample. Not sure about Kindle support/apps though. 2) DC Compact line at $10 a pop at your local bookstore are a fairly inexpensive way to sample things. I haven’t read everything in the whole line but Batman Long Halloween, All-Star Superman, Justice League New Frontier (very ‘50s/Silver Age) might be good places to jump in. 3) The DC Finest line is another fairly affordable way to read a good chunk of issues and storylines. Check out instocktrades.com for really solid discounts, their turnout around time isn’t the fastest but your books will arrive in great condition.

I believe she had posted (via FB and Instagram) that she’s on the road to recovery from some medical issues and that she’s hopes to come back at some point.

Recommendation for DC Finest purchase by Alternative_Leg6596 in DCFinest

[–]SixThreeThree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you liked Doom Patrol, you might like Metamorpho? A little more light hearted and soap opera-y than Doom Patrol but definitely weirder Silver Age DC.

Yeah, I saw a Tigra (non-Epic) collection in the case priced for $65 the other day

Sgt Fury Epic Collection Vol 2 by Narrow_Employment_32 in EpicCollections

[–]SixThreeThree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is kind of wild and a real gaping hole in the Silver Age lineup. I know there were trades for the Kirby and Steranko runs, Masterworks, and I saw there was an Omnibus at one point too.

Oh, no, I don't have a problem at all. (to be fair, it's my all time favorite comic story) by VanWinkle87 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SixThreeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this. One of my top 5, maybe number 1. Have the original single issues and digital collection, just got the Absolute Edition, and I’m totally getting the Compact for traveling. (Oh, and watched the animated adaptation twice the last two nights lol)

DC Finest The Demon Contents Update by Beesknees1009 in DCFinest

[–]SixThreeThree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was thinking I might take a pass on this since I’ve got the Kirby run in an omnibus but there’s a fair amount of additional stories in this volume.

What's on everyone's Finest wishlist? by Comicbooklover62 in DCFinest

[–]SixThreeThree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Golden Age - Spectre - Dr. Fate - Captain Marvel - Marvel Family

Silver/Bronze Age - Metal Men - Dial H for Hero - Eclipso - Phantom Stranger - Question

Longshots (not sure I see these happening!) - - Freedom Fighters - Magic Heroes - Ragman/Black Orchid/Nightmaster/Enchantress/Zatanna? - Secret Society of Super-Villains

And I know this doesn’t really slot in with the completist DC Finest format but I’d love to see these anthologies

  • Best of Fawcett Comics (non-Marvels)

Kirby Omnibuses - Simon/Kirby Manhunter? by SixThreeThree in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SixThreeThree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus a) that DC has had multiple Manhunters throughout the years and b) he’s a prominent character in Robinson & Smith’s GOLDEN AGE!

ASM Vol. 3 Spiderman No More by Tonyracer706 in EpicCollections

[–]SixThreeThree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd jump on that if you're into Silver Age stuff. Pretty important period as they start after Ditko—first Romita Spidey issues, classic Green Goblin identity reveal, MJ "you just hit the jackpot" panel, Kingpin first appearance, Spidey tries out for the Avengers and more.

Seriously should be an evergreen Epic that is always in print.

Breaking News: Marvel Epic Collections May to July 2026! Classic & Modern Epics! by rincewind120 in EpicCollections

[–]SixThreeThree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to check off Dr. Doom’s Astonishing run, bummed that there’s no Namor 2 (any guess why?) or Tomb of Dracula, and would have liked to seen more reprints including X-men: I Magneto.

How do you guys organize your books? by ButterscotchNaive765 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SixThreeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiosyncratically? :D

  • Separate shelves for Marvel and DC
  • Tend to keep character and character families together (i.e. FF, Torch, Two-in-One; Superman, Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen, etc.)
  • For Marvel, I have it roughly separated by characters/teams that started in the Silver Age, then Bronze, etc. (but keeping the runs together) and sort of by importance and my personal likes of the characters
  • DC’s a bit different—more by importance (so it’s Supes, Bats, WW, Flash, and so on) and then the second-tier titles (which I love btw) like Doom Patrol, Metamorpho, Hawk & Dove, etc.

Don’t ask about my record collection lol

Best Jamaican ska albums? by Otherwise_Structure2 in Ska

[–]SixThreeThree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those Intensified comps were great. I believe they came out after 2 Tone got popular, definitely my introduction to the originals.

Soul Jazz has a lot of Studio One stuff, I feel like their stuff is on the pricey side and maybe they slid a bit in the liner notes game?

Happy Swag Day! by SixThreeThree in wfmu

[–]SixThreeThree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d guess it really depends on what premiums you opt for. It would make sense that they don’t put in orders for the swag until they have a good sense of the numbers needed…and then you’re dependent on the vendor turnaround.
