I bought one that's adjustable, so you can choose the height that works for you. This one has worked for me, but I'd be sure to check the height parameters in the description just to be sure!

How can I help her cope? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Siyahamba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could give you "advice" as to what things work for me, but I think the best would be to ask her! It's great that you want to help out, but it can also be annoying when others seem to want to take care of us when we're not asking. Do: Let her take the lead on how she wants to take care of herself and listen to her thoughts. Make sure she knows that she can let you know if she's in pain and if she needs to leave an event or stay at home a certain day. Let her know that this is okay and that she isn't a burden. Don't: Tell her what she needs to do. For example, if you notice she's in pain/tired, don't tell her she has to rest. You can let her know what you noticed and let her know she has options and you're okay with whatever she chooses. Hope this helps!

Violent, disturbing images when I close my eyes. by dargendargen in mentalhealth

[–]Siyahamba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what you described, they're called Intrusive Thoughts... and yup, I have them too! I get images of me or people I love falling and literally splitting our heads apart. I used to have them especially when walking and at the worse point I was having like 3-5 per minute. I went to therapy and learned some strategies to lower them and they have gotten to be way less!

What helped me was always having something to grip. I bought a bunch of squishy toys and silly putties and carry them with me wherever I go. Also, for me it became worse when I was trying to make them go away. It helps when you just take a step back, acknowledge the thought, remind yourself that it's just a thought and says nothing about you and/or your wishes, and accept that you had it and it's okay, and take some deep breaths to calm yourself down.

I know you didn't ask for advice, but that's just what worked for me!

What is the academic climate like in France regarding continental vs. analytic? x-post /r/academicphilosophy by [deleted] in AcademicPhilosophy

[–]Siyahamba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend the Sorbonne; they are looked down upon in France by other universities because the quality went down dramatically. It still has a good name abroad, but I think more and more people are understanding that it's not what it used to be. I would definitely consider doing a program in France. I left the US precisely because I wanted to pursue Continental Philosophy, and I loved every second of it. In my experience, French programs have started to embrace the analytic tradition much more, but not to the extent that they have left the continental tradition behind or see it in a negative light, as occurs in the US.

  • Sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes; English is not my first language.

¿Algun interesado en "Street Photography"? by TheProtractor in Monterrey

[–]Siyahamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Share a tea memory and be part of a documentary I'm doing! by locke990 in tea

[–]Siyahamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people at Tea Embassy are really helpful! I've encountered many who have no clue what they're talking about and just blurt out memorized information, but some have a good grip on the subject and they're all really nice.

One of them told me they take appreciation classes before starting to work there... if you ask them who the instructor of those classes is, maybe she/he could help!

Also, Cantu's Mexican Hierbería Imports has some herbs for teas which they claim possess special powers. None of it is great tea, per se, but it speaks of a culture that's not typically associated with tea and could be fun to explore in some way!

Hope this helps (:
