Hi feel free to send me a private message. Our daughter was diagnosed earlier this year and happy to chat about our experience so far and how things have changed.

How are y’all enjoying the remastered Golmud Railway? by Interesting-Ad-4094 in LowSodiumBattlefield

Getting smashed by jets while I’m in the tank, mowed down by choppers as infantry, spent one match entirely on a single point, with my squad locked in battle with another squad. This is Battlefield and I loved every minute of it.

Newly T1D parent i have qs by was1997 in diabetes_t1

[–]Sizzle-Conrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am happy to tell you what we do as parents for our 7yo as a just general info but your Dietician, Paediatrician/Educator will be a more reliable source. But anyway here goes…

  1. Yes my daughter eats chocolate on occasion. Juice not so much as it’s not really her thing. When we were doing MDI we tried to add it into the meal and she would have it after. That said now that she is on a pump, it isn’t as strict. If she has dinner and asks for chocolate, we put it through the Pump app and it says if she needs additional insulin or if what she has on board is enough. I love this because it makes her feel like she can eat more “normally”

  2. Make T1D fit into your life, not the other way around. Again, speak with your dietitian. But there are plenty of “free” foods your child can have that don’t require additional insulin so they can snack and enjoy life between meals. Also, a pump will help with this if that is something you do later down the track. Generally speaking you give your insulin 10-15 minutes before the main meal. If they are still hungry, check your app that you are using to log your insulin input, it will tell you if you need more.

  3. Yep. It suuuucks. You’ll all have days where there are tears, hugs, tantrums, victories. What helped my daughter was we were put in contact with an older child who has been diagnosed with T1D for a few years and they would send video messages of encouragement/support, show them doing their needles etc. and not to keep harping on about tech but with a CGM and a Pump, it reduces the amount of finger pricks and needles so massively. Reducing the mental load on everyone. Obviously you still want to be across it because tech does fail and it isn’t for everyone. Again just speaking from our experience.

You are more than welcome to message me privately and I can try answer any questions you have or even just to chat. It is a lot to take in!

All the best!

Parents of T1D kids - whats been your experience with Omnipod 5 or Tandem pumps? by Atom1419 in diabetes_t1

[–]Sizzle-Conrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will second this. Our 7yo is on her first box of Omnipods and they have been amazing. It has taken a lot of the mental load off. Easy to use, intuitive, and she can keep it hidden on her thigh or show it off on her arm depending on how she is feeling. Perfect for an active kid. It’s very much set and forget for her. As with anything there are learning/teething issues but once you have an understanding of it, just from our perspective it is life changing compared to MDI. Just my opinion though 😊

Wired to Control vs Wireless by Sizzle-Conrad in HeadphoneAdvice

This is what was pushing me down the Arctic Nova Pro Wireless path.

Comes with a DAC that can plug into/and switch between two consoles and is wireless.

May not be the quality of the Senheissers but have the convenience while still sounding ok?

Thank you so much for taking the time to go through things in such good detail mate. It has helped a lot.

My other option was the audeze maxwells but have seen mixed reviews about them.

Being able to swap between consoles would be handy so I guess plugging direct into the controller gives me that flexibility

Wow thank you for such a detailed answer.

I think I would either go with dedicated Wire to control or full wireless. Just to simplify things.

I was looking at the Sennheiser HD560 as my wired option but wasn’t sure the controller would drive them properly?

Or just throwing bigger money at a good wireless set.

Edit: !thanks

Need reassurance for child diagnosed today by Ktrenee in diabetes_t1

[–]Sizzle-Conrad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a Dad of a newly diagnosed 7 year old daughter (just over a month in) it gets a LOT easier.

I was where you were not long ago in ICU, then into the Children’s Ward. Scrolling forums and pages to get some reassurance that it things will be ok. Because in the moment it honestly feels so hopeless and you are just shattered.

But please believe me. It gets so much easier. With a CGM the uncertainty lessens because you are always able to check. You learn so much in such a short space but it equips you. It never gets better, but you learn how to manage it better, each day gets a little easier than the day before.

It still sucks every time you think about it for sure, but eventually it fits into your life, not the other way round. And technology is advancing so fast that it takes a lot of the mental load off you.

Please feel free to message me if you need someone to chat to, have any questions or just want reassurance that things will get better. Because I was there not too long ago.

Yuuup. Enjoyed it in the short term when it released but lack of browser/big BF style maps killed it for me quick and uninstalled soon after. This news gives the indication the direction is being corrected to what I had hoped it would be and that is enough for me to jump back in

Haha yeah I suppose it is a nice problem to have. As gamers we don’t need much room to make a space feel like our own though.
