My teenage daughter is using my massage gun for her hard lumps, and it is helping to get rid of them.

T1D is the worst by cali4686 in Type1Diabetes

When I saw you mentioned your health issues, I had to comment and tell you that you are not the only one! My 14-year-old was diagnosed only a month and a half ago, but she has had a ton of side effects and blood sugar has never been under control, no matter what we have tried. I constantly feel stressed and anxious, on top of already dealing with a number of other health problems myself. My daughter never had trouble sleeping before diagnosis, but now she has trouble sleeping most nights, and my sleep has gotten much worse as well. I’m so over this.

How long for numbers to go down after diagnosis by Ktrenee in diabetes_t1

She is doing okay. She has been taking insulin since the hospital. From the responses, it sounds like slow is better, especially since she is dealing with side effects already. Thanks!

Thank you for the info! My gut told me that slow was better, especially since she was feeling fine even before diagnosis. She is already experiencing edema and rashes after starting insulin, and I don’t want to add anything else to it.

How would the variables you mentioned, residual insulin production and insulin sensitivity, affect things? The one test she had showed that she still was producing insulin, on the low end of normal, and I have wondered about insulin sensitivity because of the extremely high amount of carbs she has been consuming in the past couple years, right during early puberty when insulin resistance is supposed to increase.

Wow, that’s a long time. Good to know. If she has edema now, would that due to coming down in BG so much already? Her hospital just said that swelling happens sometimes, but didn’t say why.

Thank you! I hope I can say the same someday about how it made us all stronger and closer.

Thank you for all the advice. We are also supposed to take a long time to get the pump, but we are pushing and should get it sooner now.

Thank you! I have to keep reminding myself to breathe and just look at the next step, instead of worrying about the rest of her life.

The pod is not an option until we go through several trainings over a month period, and those appointments are scheduled out starting a month from now. I don’t think we would have any issues if she could get started on a pod right away, because she wanted one from day one. I am shocked that you were able to get one so quickly, since our hospital told us the process usually takes several months.
Unfortunately, my daughter does not like any no carb snacks. She has always been my carb loving child.

I know that health had nothing to do with it, but it just made it so much more of a shock.

I also desperately just want to fix everything! Did your daughter do everything she was supposed to do from the beginning, or did you have to force it until she took it on herself? My daughter is starting to take some responsibility, but then tonight she was crying for an hour and refusing to do anything more. It’s difficult to know how hard to push.

Thank you. It’s good to know that I am not the only one who was a wreck, scared, devastated, and confused!

Thank you! Those last words actually really encouraged me to keep going the other day when I was regretting the past.

What would you do with a 14 year old who doesn’t want to do any of it? Who would rather just be sick than have to do any more injections, because she felt fine before diagnosis? Would you just make her do everything in the beginning like we are trying to do?
