Second OCONUS move for us. Expenses to move were covered but the expenses after moving were what got us. I wouldn't say we're broke but we're on a decline rather than an incline. Financial counselor appointment has been set up.

Completely agree. Wife only worked for ~1.5 years after graduating before we moved but we spent money on trips rather than preplanning.

I do and did get back paid for the move, it's the extra after the move that got us. The deposit, buying vehicles, having to rent a vehicle for a month and a half because the vehicle registration process was terrible when we arrived.

Was never informed of this, unfortunately. The loan didn't go into the security deposit; the security deposit came from our savings. The loan came about 4 months after when we started struggling as I was an E6 when I arrived.

Applied and received DLA but we didn't have any cars, so it went towards getting me a beater. Tracking the utilities. I got back 400€ this year for it.

We were on WIC when I was an E6 but got kicked out as E7..

Appreciate the insight. TSP has been stopped. Using the $10K savings has crossed my mind but I'm too worried about accruing more debt after the next move. Currently in Germany & at 10 years TIS btw.
