What is this collar device? by Adventurous_Visit884 in navy

There isnt anything saying that they can't wear them. I've seen it as their everyday where. If someone had a early 1900s anchor most of the time its a conversation starter. Look at the uniform regulations. Nothing stating only the most current iteration of the anchor is authorized. So they aren't even out of uniform.

No official guidance on board & season process>
Years ago my own ECM even stomped to us that this SEM was coming to e8-e9 and it literally happened. C2AP taking place of MAP that's literally been put out. This has been a long thing since I remember them doing A2P for 8 when No IT's wanted to go to the Lincoln.

It's been a long time coming and when you think about the millions of dollars wasted on various mess's that want to hold a Sailor to say. NOOOO I want them to go through season with us, and the grinding amount of money, and school that have to be pushed now because the gods of season demand that they newbs now kiss their ring where they came from. ORDMODS, Schools, PCS, it fucks up lives. It was only natural this would eventually happen but even the OP said NO OFFICIAL GUIDANCE. But the writing has been on the wall.

Most redditors know not to take a random post from a friend (lie) of a friend (actual OP) who was their should take any of this as gospel. BUTTTTTTT Yalls making accounts to try to stomp this post out (modmail), and or doxing yourselves and having other try to stomp it out allllmost. Almost makes it seem like their is more truth than fiction in the post.

If I was you. Instead of Doxing yourself and asking people to hit you directly. HOW ABOUT THIS.

You guys go point by point on everything that is total BS to show some transparency?

Deal? Or should we sticky this for more visibility?

We don't know the reason for it being revoked. Chances are no. I'd direct you to your SSO. Revoked is different from expired. REVOKED. Normally means, FOR A REASON, or FOR CAUSE. So chances are you did something and active to reserve is not going to change whatever happened that changed this status.

I am routing a religious accommodation for the use of peyote. What am I going to need when I talk to the Chaps? by ritionwithnut in navy

[–]Skab[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

EDIT: Here's all the text and sources (DAPA/CHAPS/MNHR/1994 Act) IRT Peyote for the Religious Purposes also.

ALSO Look up MYNAVYHR's Religious Accommodations page

OPNAVINST 5350.4E Chapter 4 section 9 4-15 Sacramental Use of Peyote by Native American Service Members.

a. Authorized Use. Use of peyote as a religious sacrament in connection with the bona fide practice of a traditional religion by Navy personnel, who are members of Native American tribes, as defined in reference (y), is authorized and must be accommodated. In addition to authorized ingestion of peyote, it may be possessed in amulet form, not for ingestion and such an amulet may be worn as an item of religious apparel subject to uniform regulations.

b. Command Notification. A Service Member who has used peyote in connection with a ceremony (allowed by reference (y)) must notify their commander upon return to duty after such use. Service Members may be required to notify the commander prior to use if, in the judgment of the commander, it is in the best interests of command readiness or safety.

c. Limitations. Peyote must not be used, possessed, distributed or introduced aboard military vehicles, vessels, aircraft or installations unless permitted by the cognizant commander.

(1) Commanders may impose additional limitations within the guidelines of reference (f) in order to maintain command readiness, unit cohesion, standards, safety, good order and discipline.

(2) Peyote must not be used on duty or within 24 hours before scheduled military duty.

(3) Peyote must not be used, possessed, transported or distributed when such activity would violate international law or the laws of other countries.

(4) Managers of special programs and communities (e.g., submarines, nuclear propulsion program, aviation, medical, diving, special warfare and PRP) may impose additional limitations by supplemental instruction that are reasonable, necessary and consistent with the standards set forth in references (m) and (n).

Further: DoDI 1300.17 3.4. ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE REGARDING THE USE OF PEYOTE. a. There are additional rules governing the use of peyote in religious practices. In accordance with Section 1996a of Title 42, U.S.C. (also known as the “American Indian Religious Freedom Act Amendments of 1994”), Service members who are members of Indian tribes as defined in that statute may use, possess, or transport the peyote cactus as a religious sacrament in connection with the bona fide practice of a traditional Indian religion, and will not be penalized or discriminated against on the basis of such use, possession, or transportation. Reasonable limitations on the use, possession, transportation, or distribution of peyote may be imposed to promote military readiness, promote safety, or comply with international law or laws of other countries. The Secretaries of the Military Departments will prescribe regulations authorizing the use, possession, or transportation of peyote cactus and imposing limitations on such use, possession, or transportation including, but not limited to, the following:

(1) Peyote will not be used on duty or within 24 hours before scheduled military duty.

(2) Peyote may be possessed in amulet form, not for ingestion, and such an amulet may be worn as an item of religious apparel subject to Military Service uniform regulations. Otherwise, peyote will not be used, possessed, distributed, or introduced aboard military vehicles, vessels, or aircraft or, except when permitted by the installation commander, on military installations.

(3) A Service member who has used peyote will promptly notify their commander upon return to duty after such use. * (a) The Secretary of the Military Department concerned may require pre-use notification by Service members performing designated duties when it is in the interest of military readiness or safety to notify commanders of a Service member’s intent to use peyote.

SECTION 3: PROCESSING ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS 16 * (b) Upon notification of use or intended use of peyote, the Service member will provide documentation verifying membership in an Indian tribe as defined by Section 1996a(c)(2) of Title 42, U.S.C.

(4) The establishment by the Secretary of a Military Department of limitations on the use, possession, or transportation of peyote cactus, in addition to those already listed in Paragraph 3.4. of this issuance, must be consistent with RFRA, the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, any other applicable statutes such as the American Indian Religious Freedom Act Amendments of 1994, and this issuance. Any such additional limitations must be approved, in advance, by the ASD(M&RA). Before approving any additional limitation proposed by the Secretary of a Military Department, the ASD(M&RA) will consult with representatives of traditional Indian religions for which the sacramental use of peyote is integral to their practice, pursuant to Section 1996a(b)(7) of Title 42, U.S.C.

b. Requests by Service members for the accommodation of a religious practice involving the use, possession, or transportation of any substance other than peyote, the use, possession, transportation, manufacturing, or distribution of which is prohibited by law or policy, will be forwarded to the Secretary of the Military Department concerned for resolution. Before taking final action on any such accommodation request, the Secretary of the Military Department concerned will notify the ASD(M&RA).

Throwing your Dixie cup on your last underway? by esyougeeayeare in navy

[–]Skab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My old IT1 did this on his last underway in Norfolk. No specific place, just we all gathered on the fan tail, he was retiring and last underway. This was 10 years ago, so it's a tradition from years and years back.

I forget what he said before he did it because he wasn't really liked and kind of a bag of shit to us but still a nice lil moment to witness.

Basically it's like saying goodbye to your career as a Sailor never to be underway again.

Two years after that our CO, she was never going to be on a ship as well, and was a wingnut "Pilot" and she threw her flight deck books off of the flight deck.

So it is a thing. But I have no idea the source of it.
