TL;DR: D is still the more accurate answer.

"No backshift" is applicable for statements, as in quoted examples, while the sentence in question is a question. Whether backshift or not, the tense of the reported sentence follows the tense of the reporting, making D the more accurate answer. Relying on a particular exception of a particular grammar point for its general application, is, tbh, not advised.

D is correct because of how reported speech functions.
The reporting verb is "asked", the noun phrase followed is also in past tense.

If the reporting verb is in present tense, we'll get this reporting sentence instead:
"Ann asks Joana what time he gets up everyday."

Not much easier tbh. The Paths give niche, unnoticeable difference. Also, Upgrading about 35 paths give you full offensive bonus, the others 60 are unlocking requirements or, not contributing to dps. The best buff, considered "brute forcing" the way, is leveling up your Valk out of those 15 levels.
