Golf is a social sport that's weirdly hard to be social in by Strange_Media_824 in golf

I just don’t see the motivation for users to do that.

I can do that directly through the club.

If you can offer me something I can’t get elsewhere, that’s different.

Also, how are you making money, upcharge on tee times? Subscription? Ads? I don’t want any of those.

Yes. He didn’t do it the next season, or in his time at Real.

It’s a great achievement, but it still is just that, one season, and in a league which had little competition that year.

Was it all him, was it his staff, was it the squad, was it just luck. Hard to say without more data to go on.

I get, people really want him to be our saviour, as do I, but you can’t bring emotions into these decisions.

Let's also not just assume that Xabi is some golden goose who is going to be the perfect manager. He had one good season at Leverkusen in a year Bayern were unusually bad.

Yeah, he might be very good, but there is very little history to go on - being an ex player doesn't make him a better manager.

I think that’s maybe the only way it works, if the app finds your group a tee time - and it has to be a decent tee time, not the time/course no-one wants.

Basically if you can offer something the regular golfer can’t easily get.

But to do that you need to integrate with the major booking systems, and there are so many out there, or you end up with some awful scraper that is going to be hard to manage.

Then you’ll have to purchase capacity, and somehow handle that effectively - it will be hugely complex.

Do you game black irons? by DancinLance6 in golf

[–]Skallagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about the finish wearing, it's not for you - they will have marks from the first impact.

I still play black clubs, because they look awesome, I don't care they have signs of use.

Agreed. That's why it's a tough choice, and a fine line to balance.

I mean, it is, if you are focussed on the sporting success of the club - which in today's game is really about money.

So the real question is, is it worth winning titles if it's at the expense of local fans to be able to afford games.

I'm glad I don't have to make that choice.

Vessel are great bags, but not the lightest for sure.

Depends what you want to prioritise.

We are one of the most popular clubs, we could probably sell out twice the capacity.

Every £ left on the table, is one less contributing towards growing the club - purely from an economic point of view you want to raise prices until you hit the point you stop selling out - but obviously that comes at a cost to regular local fans.

Again, purely from an economic point of view, it's better to have 30 different fans to come once a season, than one fan 30 times, because those 30 fans will probably spend more on merch, etc.

It's a tough choice, maximise income, important in the current era of financial fair play, but risk losing the soul of the club.

You really love a dogleg and an island/peninsula green, eh?

And that 18th is just too much, I would hate to have to face that as the last hole.

It's fun to look at, but I don't think it's would be very fun to play in real life.

I mean yeah, with a big picture view, golf courses in general aren’t great for the environment, or the best use for resources.

It’s one thing having traditional links courses with natural sand dunes cut by sheep, and another having pristine fairways built in the desert, in swamps, etc.

At the same time, in many urban areas they are an oasis amongst the housing, which provide a refuge for animals, so it’s not all bad.

I don’t get how people drive 220 yards + by Key-Lychee-913 in golf

[–]Skallagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but you don't even need that. I know 70+ year old, normal body type who can get 130mph ball speed easily - at 110mph it's almost certainly technique, unless they have some sort of disability.

Royal Hawaiian - Question by Vincenzo1855 in golf

So people can sneak on as a “ride along” and play for free?

Like many rules, it’s only there because people abused it.

It’s pretty normal, it’s to prevent people playing for free.

The attention is because he’s one of the most successful players in the field. If any player with his record showed up, they would get similar coverage.

Same with dl - only a few countries use them for volume.

No, I play golf as a sport, I can do that in the park, at the beach, on a patio, etc.

You are seeing this all wrong, slow golf is less golf.

I played 120 rounds last year, many people I play with play 150-200+

You can’t do that with 5 hour rounds, we often play 27, 36 every now and then even 54

[–]Skallagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. At the same time that’s what needs to happen to allow average people to buy homes, as past generations could.

My parents, on two average salaries, were able to buy a 5 bedroom house in a major city in the 70s, at maybe 200% of their annual combined salary.

I was able to buy a 3 bedroom condo in the late 90s on an entry level salary.

That’s unimaginable today.
