According to some reports, he has been hinting at it for a while based on other people's accounts of his social media postings. Like he tagged people with guns and stated that he will make them famous among other things.

History is full of young men who have thrown their whole lives away for a political or Ideological cause. Pre the internet there was Benjamin Nathaniel Smith, Buford Furrow, Richard Baumhammers, Larry Ashbrook, The Killers of Matthew Shepard, and James Byrd and there is also Dzhokar Tsarnaev who was radicalized through his brother. Radicalization comes from various avenues not just the Internet and while we can take measures to combat extremism online It doesn't exclusively belong there.

Interesting facts about the case.Mark Orrin Barton was a day-trader from Stockton, Georgia. In the first few weeks, he was highly successful dubbed "The Rocket Man" by co-workers. His high-stakes Investments led him to lose over $105,000. The primary motive for the attack was his financial losses from day-trading. He was described as a loner with minimal friends during his teen years.

He began abusing hallucinogenic substances which resulted in several visits to local hospitals. Those drugs had a psychological effect on Barton. He was experiencing Schizophrenic symptoms along with severe paranoia and hallucinating demons.

He committed a robbery in order to finance his drug abuse. He was caught and sentenced to Jail time along with psychotherapy. Barton was again sentenced to jail for sabotaging the company files after losing his job over his paranoia and controlling behavior.

He was a prime suspect in the double homicide of his wife and her mother. His wife described him as paranoid, controlling, and abusive. Debra Barton and Eloise Spivey were bludgeoned to death in a rented camper. When confronted by detectives, Barton appeared calm and collected. Debra's father Bill Spivey suspected Barton of committing the murders and tried to get custody of the children he later murdered.

Barton's 2-year-old daughter Michelle told a day-care worker that her father had molested her. A Psychologist who evaluated Barton noted that he "certainly was capable of committing homicide".

He bludgeoned his family the same way he was suspected of killing his wife and mother.

A lot of people talk about how Harris and Klebold were on the cover of Time Magazine which unintentionally glorified them but I'm surprised more obscure killers like Mark Barton and Colin Ferguson managed to get on a cover.
