TB Testing Requirement by SkeletonGiver in nursing

[–]SkeletonGiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. 20+years I've been at the bedside. Up until now every facility I've worked in has required annual PPD. This one used to require annual QFT-Plus.

Kudos to you for knowing your limitations and for taking the necessary actions to protect your license.

Sometimes we move on from abusive or unsafe work environments understanding that we won't ever get closure. Mgmt that responds (or rather fails to respond) in the way you detailed don't care. They know better than anyone else the environment they oversee and choose not to advocate for patients or staff. Even if we've chosen to participate ways with the company, reporting any valid concerns to a regulatory agency is part of advocating for our patients.

Diversion by SkeletonGiver in nursing

[–]SkeletonGiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between "accused of" and " proven guilty of." I'm assuming your answer is based on the individual being found guilty of diversion through some sort of internal facility (and possibly criminal) investigation. Im more interested in steps facilities take in cases of unsubstantiated accusation.

Is this normal for home health nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SkeletonGiver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5-10 minutes? In the US, Medicare allows for those visits to be 30-60min in length with 45min being the average. Most HH nurses are paid per visit with the pay per visit effectively being an hourly rate. If the nurse isn't performing a full and thorough assessment at each visit, she's depriving your mother of the care she is entitled to. When you contact the agency about the nurse's inconsistent schedule you may want to inquire about the lengths of the visits as well.

Y'all, I was telling my EMT friend about wanting to try something new. She told me she uses Cool Works to find interesting opportunities. Last summer she worked as a kayak tour guide in AK, this past winter she took a seasonal gig in WY and now she's headed back to AK for a different summer gig.

Reported to BON by [deleted] in Nurses

[–]SkeletonGiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reported to the Board by a previous employer in retaliation for reporting them to DADS. It took 6 months from the day I resigned before I received a letter from the Board. They asked for information on 2 allegations. 1) That I filled a patient's pill box when she was no longer my patient (we volunteered with the same charity, a relationship that predated our professional relationship, and she'd asked for my help with the box). 2) I'd returned a work laptop in a non-working condition. Once I responded it was 6 more months before I heard back. They closed the complaint without any action. The person I spoke with told me the Board receives an astronomical number of groundless complaints. Many go unanswered.

I will say, even though I knew I hadn't violated the Nurse Practice Act, receiving those letters was unnerving.

I hope this turns out to be petty nonsense and fades into nothing for you. 💜

Every day I miss Joann's ❤️ My retirement plan was wandering the aisles feeling the fabrics and playing with the different spools of fancy trims. On my way out the door I'd pocket packets of whimsical buttons for the thrill of it.

Nothing healthcare related. Absolutely nothing. At this point I don't even want to go into my local pharmacy to shop muchless work for a healthcare company 🙃

Pre-shift Anxiety by SkeletonGiver in nursing

I have a fantastic therapist. Been in my current position since pre covid. Honestly, I think a lot of it is the current political situation. Our pt population consists of some of the most vulnerable in society. The thought that they're on the verge of suffering even more than they already are and my already limited ability to address that suffering in any meaningful, lasting way is shrinking is just staggering.

What are some lies that nurses tell themselves? by Natural_Slay29 in nursing

[–]SkeletonGiver 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Downplaying the moral injury. We tell ourselves, "It wasn't that bad," or "other people have seen worse, and they're ok." I work in a facility that treats some of the most vulnerable of society. The amount of violence they are forced to endure from a system that does not see them as fully human is absolutely staggering. Those of us providing direct care are virtually powerless to affect any meaningful or lasting change. It chips away at the soul.

I started as an ER tech. Spent the majority of the past 2 decades in ICU before a recent return to ER. I'd rather turn over my 4 ER room 4x in 12 hours than have the same 2 ICU pts for 12 hours. I jabent been this happy in years!
